Is auto Diesel filter regeneration a periodical procedure or after sensing the filter quality? My car is a Kia Carens.

It isn’t periodical - your Kia Carens triggers DPF regeneration when the ECU senses the filter is filling with soot. It uses sensors and driving data to estimate soot load, then does passive regen on its own during steady highway runs, and active regen when needed by raising exhaust temperature to burn the soot.

If your use is mostly short, stop‑start city trips, the car can’t keep exhaust temps up, so active regens will happen more often, and sometimes you’ll see a DPF message asking you to keep driving. When that pops up, a 15‑20 minute run at about 60 km/h with gentle revs usually completes it. If you ignore or keep shutting the car mid‑cycle, the warning can escalate, and you may need the parked/manual regen from the cluster menu, or a workshop reset.

You’ll notice slightly higher fuel use, a hot smell, and a fast fan while regen runs. That’s normal. It is not tied to a fixed mileage or time; it’s entirely based on soot loading and your driving pattern.

Why does the Maruti Eeco 6-seater version not come with AC? Doesn't Maruti offer the option of installing an air conditioner? Can AC be fitted through the aftermarket after purchase?

The reason the Maruti Eeco 6-seater Standard variant is not offered with factory-fitted AC is largely a cost and positioning decision by Maruti. It is worth noting that this restriction is specific to the 6-seater Standard variant. The 5-seater versions of the Eeco are available with factory-fitted AC, so Maruti is not avoiding AC altogether on the model.As for adding AC later, yes, it is technically possible to fit an aftermarket AC, and many owners have done so. However, we would generally not recommend it. Factory-fitted AC systems are integrated with the engine calibration, wiring, dashboard layout and cooling system. An aftermarket setup may not cool as effectively, can affect reliability and could create issues with electrical components over the long term if not installed properly.If AC is important to you, the better solution is to buy an Eeco variant that comes with factory fitted AC from the outset or go for alternatives like the Renault Triber or the Nissan Gravite.

Hi Team, After driving my new Tata Punch Turbo home from the showroom, I noticed a burnt smell and some white smoke coming from the bonnet. Since it’s a brand-new car, I’m a bit concerned. This isn’t normal on a brand-new Punch Turbo; book an immediate inspection and avoid driving it till they check it.Visible white smoke from the bonnet with a burnt smell right after the first drive points to oil or coolant touching a hot exhaust or turbo, or a loose clamp. A slipping clutch can create a burnt smell, but it rarely causes visible smoke on a day-one car unless something is already wrong, so the half-clutch explanation sounds like deflection. There is one harmless case, thin coatings or a bit of fluid spilled during prep can burn off and give a faint smell or light wisps for the first few kilometres, but that should fade quickly and not produce sustained smoke.Park it, look for any fresh wet spots under the car, and check the coolant level once the engine is fully cold. Note where the smoke seemed to start, especially front right near the turbo and exhaust, and record a short clip if it happens again. Take it back to the dealer, ask for a job card, and have them check for leaks, loose hose clamps, or clutch issues under warranty. Do not accept “driving style” as the only answer on day one.

I actually do not want an Ertiga, XL6, or Kia Carens. I am looking for something a bit different with better road presence and a more premium comfort feel. Can you suggest some good used 6-7 seater options in the Rs 7-12 lakh range? Also, considering that my usage is mostly city driving with occasional highway trips and not very high running, should I go for a petrol or diesel car? Which option would make more sense in terms of maintenance, reliability, fuel efficiency, and long-term ownership?

In that price bracket, your other 6-7-seater options are Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. These offerings are surprisingly spacious and practical, and since your usage is limited to the city, they will feel very user-friendly, with their light controls and relatively compact dimensions.Alternatively, you could consider a Citroen Aircross. Being a rare sight on our roads and having proper SUV credentials, it delivers in terms of road presence. However, its third row is not as spacious as other seven-seaters listed, and you will have to stretch your budget by a few lakhs to get this, since the seven-seater is available with the more powerful turbo-petrol engine.Taking all things into consideration, we'd urge you to reconsider and opt for the 1.5 petrol Kia Carens or Maruti Ertiga if you want a comfortable seven-seater.

I am looking to buy a 6/7-seater EV. My primary usage will be as a 4-seater, with occasional 6-seater use. You should go for the Mahindra XEV 9S. It's a proper three-row EV, and it fits your use case perfectly. With home solar charging, your running costs are very low, and the smooth, quiet drive is just right for city runs as a 4-seater. When you do need six or seven seats, the third row is reasonably spacious, and for your 500 km trip every couple of months, you’ll need just one quick top-up at a highway charger.Do note that with all three rows up, boot space is tight, so your highway trips will require some planning.Alternatively, consider the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It isn't as feature-rich and doesn't have as much range as the XEV 9S, but its third row is more comfortable for adults.

I am getting the Hyundai i20 Sportz IVT for Rs. 9.5 lakh and the Honda Amaze VX CVT for Rs. 10.5 lakh. Which one should I buy?

Pick the Hyundai i20 Sportz IVT. Besides being Rs 1 lakh more affordable, the i20 feels like a more refined, smooth and polished car in comparison. The cabin feels a touch nicer with better quality of materials and fit-finish, and the rear seat is wider if you occasionally seat three.If you often do airport runs or road trips with family, the Amaze CVT VX could makes sense on account of its huge boot. But overall, the i20 IVT is the better pick.

I want to buy a car under Rs 12 lakh. It should be a petrol automatic and will be my first car. I need good ground clearance, a good engine and gearbox combination for 70% city and 30% highway use, and my daily running is around 30 km in Bengaluru traffic. Comfort, space, decent fuel efficiency, ease of driving, and long-term ownership are important to me. I do not want a Fronx, Baleno, i20, Exter, Punch, or Nexon. Please suggest a value-for-money option. Thank you.

Given your exclusions, the Skoda Kylaq automatic would be our first recommendation. Specifically, the Signature automatic is if you can stretch slightly. The 1.0 TSI turbo petrol and torque converter automatic are a very good combination for Bangalore traffic. The gearbox is smooth, the engine has enough punch for highway overtakes, and the car feels more premium and substantial than most options in this price range. Ground clearance is good, it is easy to drive, and it has the solid feel that many first-time buyers appreciate.Another strong option is the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro automatic. It has a wider rear seat, feels bigger inside and is one of the most spacious compact SUVs in the segment. The torque converter automatic is smooth, and it is comfortable for city use. The downside is that fuel efficiency is not that great, and the boot is on the smaller side.If you are willing to consider a sedan, the Honda Amaze CVT is also worth a look. The CVT is exceptionally smooth in traffic, reliability is excellent, and it is the kind of car you can comfortably keep for a decade. The only reason it is not our primary recommendation is that you specifically mentioned wanting good ground clearance.
