I’ve been a first adopter of EV and have been driving the Nexon EV since 2020. Now I want to upgrade. Between the newly launched Harrier EV/XEV 9E or the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (which is available at a similar price with discounts), which is the better option? Thanks.

Go for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 - it is a far more sophisticated and reliable car. Yes, the Indian offerings are better equipped, but if you don't mind sacrificing some of the new-age features, the Ioniq 5 is undeniably the best option at that price point.

The turbo petrol engine has enough punch for quick overtakes, the car feels planted on the highway and Mahindra car has a strong safety record. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire VXi is a good car, but it is more suited to city driving and engine performance feels a bit lacking for the highway. The Tata Nexon Smart Plus is a solid option, but the 3XO offers better value and a more engaging driving experience.

Hi, I am planning to buy a 7-seater car, but I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 Petrol and the Tata Safari Petrol. My annual running will be around 6,000 km, as I live in Dubai and visit India only once every four months for about 15 days. My family stays in our hometown, Nagercoil, and will be using the car most of the time. We were initially planning to book the XUV 7XO AX7 Petrol, but after seeing the Tata Safari Petrol, we became confused. Between the two, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more complete package. This Mahindra car offers a more refined turbo-petrol engine, better performance, a well-appointed cabin and a more polished driving experience. It is also our preferred choice over the Safari for its overall value, safety and ownership experience. While the Tata Safari Petrol is expected to offer excellent ride comfort and a spacious cabin, the powertrain is still new and doesn't yet have the long-term track record of Mahindra's turbo-petrol engine.Since your hometown is Nagercoil, after-sales support should also influence your decision. Both Mahindra and Tata have a presence there, but Mahindra has built a stronger reputation in recent years for service consistency and parts availability. Given that you'll be overseas for much of the year, it's important that your family has access to dependable service without hassle.Based on your usage and ownership plans, we'd go ahead with the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 Petrol. It is the more proven product today and should prove to be the easier and more satisfying SUV to own over the long term.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV does have a roomier cabin and benefits from the latest 3XO interior, improved ergonomics and a long features list. However, underneath, it is essentially a facelifted XUV400. It carries over the same 39.4kWh battery pack, 150hp motor and front-wheel-drive powertrain, rather than using Mahindra's newer INGLO architecture seen on the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Mahindra itself positions it as the replacement for the XUV400.That means you're buying a car with a much-improved body and cabin, but not an all-new EV platform. The battery size and real-world range also lag behind some newer rivals, so while performance remains strong, the underlying technology doesn't move the segment forward.If your choice is strictly between the XUV 3XO EV and the Tata Nexon EV, we'd still lean towards the Nexon EV. This Tata car benefits from a more modern dedicated EV architecture, offers larger battery options, longer range and has matured into a well-rounded package over successive updates. The XUV 3XO EV's biggest advantage is its more spacious cabin, but that alone isn't enough to outweigh the Nexon's more contemporary electric underpinnings.If you're open to looking beyond these two, the MG Windsor EV remains our top recommendation in this price bracket. It feels like a segment above in terms of cabin space, comfort and overall value, making it the most compelling family electric car unless your requirement is for a more compact SUV.

The Crysta is still the benchmark for this kind of requirement. It is genuinely spacious in all three rows, has a large and usable boot even with all seats up, and is built for long-distance comfort and reliability. The diesel engine is strong, refined and well-suited to highway cruising, and Toyota’s ownership experience and long-term reliability are hard to beat. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more modern product with a more premium-looking interior and a better sound system, but it does not match the Crysta for outright space, practicality or long-term peace of mind. If your priority is a proper 7-seater that will serve you well for years, the Crysta is the safer and more sensible choice. If you want a more premium cabin and a richer feature set, the XUV 7XO is the alternative, but it is not as practical as the Crysta.

Given your requirements, the Hyundai Exter AMT is the best fit. As a senior citizen with city-only driving and low annual kilometres, the Exter offers the right balance of ease of use, comfort and practicality. The higher seating position makes ingress and egress easier, visibility is excellent, and the AMT gearbox is smooth enough for city traffic. The cabin is more spacious than the Swift, especially in terms of headroom and rear seat comfort, and the ride quality is better over broken roads. Compared to the Wagon R, the Exter feels more premium, better built and more refined, while still offering the same ease of use and practicality. The Swift is a good car, but its lower seating position and tighter rear seat make it less suitable for your needs. The Wagon R remains a practical choice, but the Exter is a clear step up in comfort, safety and overall ownership experience. Go for the Exter AMT, and you will have a car that is easy to live with for many years.
