•9hHi Autocar team. I am looking for a car for my daily office commute for 60km, which is 70% city traffic and 30% highway and occasionally inter-city travel of 350 kms. Also, I am looking for an EV car with a sunroof. Can you suggest a practical car with a long-term ownership mindset? Is Creta ev perfect for this requirement?

Yes, the electric Hyundai Creta will suit you quite nicely. The car has a very well-tuned electric drivetrain that is easy to drive. In the city, controls are light enough, and the ride is good. To support the additional weight of the battery, the Creta Electric’s suspension is stiffer than the ICE version’s, but it doesn’t translate into an uncomfortable ride. You can feel some firmness at low speeds, but road shocks are well in check, and what’s nice is that the stiffness has eliminated unnecessary (secondary) body movements, and even at highway speeds, the Creta Electric doesn’t lose its poise. So on your long trips, too, you will enjoy the driving experience. In true Hyundai fashion, the car is also well equipped and feels nice, and it feels nice and airy inside.

Go for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid automatic - it will cut your fuel use sharply, often doing 20-plus kpl in city traffic where the Astor struggles. The automatic is smooth and stress-free, and because the hybrid runs on electric power a lot in stop-and-go, you get far better mileage without changing your driving style. Size, space and comfort are close to your Astor, so the switch is easy.Two things to keep in mind: the hybrid costs more upfront than a regular petrol automatic, and the boot is smaller. Also, when you press hard, the engine sounds a bit loud, but in daily driving, it stays quiet and efficient. Toyota backs the hybrid battery well, which helps long-term peace of mind.If most of your running is highway, look at the Kia Seltos diesel automatic instead - it returns strong highway mileage and feels relaxed at speed.

Get the Honda Amaze and opt for the top spec ZX variant, which is the most affordable ADAS-equipped car in India.The ADAS suite is a camera-based system that includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot monitor, among others. Adaptive cruise control works well in stop-go conditions, and besides the ADAS, the Amaze is also a calm, easy drive in traffic, will give you good mileage, and you will benefit from Honda’s fuss-free ownership.If you want an SUV instead, consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which also offers an ADAS suite; bear in mind that fuel efficiency will not be as good as the Amaze. One thing to know: adaptive cruise is most useful on open highways. In messy city traffic, it will brake often, and you may switch it off.

Honestly, both bikes are great at their job and will suit your needs well, but they offer very different experiences. The Hunter 350 is a very different Royal Enfield from what we've seen before, but carries some signature strengths like plush ride quality, a characterful and torquey engine, as well as great curb appeal and good finish levels. Plus, when you buy a RE, you get access to a brand which has built a very good community and ownership experience in terms of events and rides, which is something few brands in India offer you today.Do bear in mind that the Hunter is a heavy machine, and this is just something you will have to work around. It's not as heavy as other Royal Enfields, but it is a good 20 kilos heavier than the TVS Ronin.Coming to the Ronin, this is a lighter, more agile and eager-feeling machine than the Hunter. It isn't overtly sporty and will be comfortable for daily use. The Ronin's lighter weight and smaller engine also translate to better fuel economy in general. The TVS is also the more affordable machine to purchase, and the price difference isn't insignificant. If you are on a tight budget, this is something to consider.Both bikes have a very different feel despite being similar on paper, and to make an informed decision before your next purchase, take a test ride of both.

There are not too many 7-seater electric vehicles that would fit your budget. We would suggest you look at the Kia Carens Clavis EV. The base variant will fit your budget, but you could also look at the next variant, which would stretch your budget by about Rs 80 thousand to 1 lakh. The electric Clavis has a very well-sorted electric drivetrain and, as a 7-seater, works wonderfully well with a third row that is quite usable and adequate for two average-sized adults.

•8hI bought a pre-owned Hyundai Elantra 2018 SX (o) vtvt petrol variant in March 2025 with an odometer reading of 64k km for 8.5Lakh. I've clocked it to 84k km currently, and the car is in very good condition. However, the mileage is very low (around 6-7 city and 14-15 highway) because of which I'm thinking of upgrading to an EV. Should I upgrade now, or should I wait for some time to get the most use out of the car, and what would be the optimum selling price of the car?

Considering you bought the car for Rs. 8.5 lakh and have added another 20,000km to the odometer, a realistic selling price today would be slightly below what you paid for it, assuming the car remains in excellent condition.One reason for this is that resale values of older used cars have softened in recent years, partly because lower GST rates and aggressive discounts on new cars have narrowed the price gap between new and used vehicles. As a result, buyers today are less willing to pay a premium for older used cars than they were a few years ago.Unless the fuel bills are becoming a major concern, it would make sense to continue using the Elantra for a while longer. It is already through its steepest depreciation phase, remains a comfortable long-distance car and appears to be in good mechanical condition.If you're considering a move to a midsize EV, it may be worth waiting for the Tata Sierra EV, which is expected to be unveiled on June 30. It has the potential to be one of the most compelling options in the segment and could be worth evaluating before making a final decision.

I need an automatic car that is practical, easy to drive, and capable of handling bad roads, potholes, and waterlogging during the monsoon. My priorities are a decent engine and gearbox, good fuel efficiency, reasonable maintenance costs, and long-term reliability. I also do not want to compromise on rear-seat space. Which car would you recommend?

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.2 Automatic. It rides higher than hatchbacks, so potholes and monsoon waterlogging are less intimidating, and the generous ground clearance helps on Bengaluru's broken roads. The rear seat is genuinely spacious enough for daily family use, while the engine and gearbox combination feels relaxed and easygoing in traffic, returning good fuel efficiency at the same time. Maruti's widespread service network and affordable spare parts also make long-term ownership relatively hassle-free.If you want the SUV-like stance and higher ground clearance on a tighter budget, the Hyundai Exter Automatic is also worth a look, though its rear seat is not quite as accommodating as the Fronx.
