The choice really depends on what you're looking for, but if your budget allows, we'd recommend the Toyota Innova HyCross.

The HyCross is the more accomplished product overall. It offers outstanding ride comfort, a far more spacious cabin, excellent practicality and, in strong hybrid form, exceptional fuel efficiency. It is also backed by Toyota's excellent reputation for long-term reliability and should be the easiest car to own over many years.

The Kia Carens Clavis is a very capable MPV in its own right. It offers a premium cabin, a long list of features, and good value for money. However, it is positioned a segment below the HyCross and doesn't quite match it for rear-seat comfort, refinement or overall long-distance ability.

If your budget stretches to the HyCross Hybrid, that would be our pick. If not, the Kia Carens Clavis offers excellent value and is a sensible choice for buyers looking for a well-equipped family car at a lower price.

I want to buy a Volkswagen Tayron R-Line. But confusing with Innovia Hycross Hybrid ZX O.

Verified

Pick the Innova HyCross Hybrid ZX(O). If you have family on board often and spend lots of time in city traffic, the hybrid will cut your fuel bills noticeably, and the automatic transmission feels calm and smooth. It is also simply easier for parents and kids - more space, a comfier second row with captain seats, and a softer ride on bad roads. Keep it 6-8 years, and Toyota’s resale and hassle-free upkeep matter. The Tayron R-Line only makes more sense if you’re mostly four or five, you drive yourself, and you value a sharper, more fun feel on highways. It will feel livelier and more premium from the driver’s seat, but you’ll stop for fuel more, and you give up the HyCross’s people-carrying ease. One catch with the HyCross: it does not feel as exciting to drive as the Tayron, and the engine can sound a bit busy when you floor it.

Would you recommend buying the current E20-compliant Innova Hycross now, or waiting for the expected Flex-Fuel version for better long-term ownership?

Verified

Buy the current E20-compliant Innova HyCross now, because long-term ownership certainty beats waiting on an unconfirmed flex-fuel launch, and E85 pumps are still rare. The hybrid is already optimised for our traffic and gives low running costs on normal petrol, so you are not gambling on fuel availability for the next 8 to 10 years. Resale and warranty clarity also sit with the HyCross you can buy today, which matters more the longer you keep it.The flex-fuel idea sounds future-proof, but ethanol has less energy than petrol, so kpl drops. You only win if E85 is much cheaper and easy to find, and that is not true in most cities yet. There is also no clear timeline from Toyota for a showroom flex-fuel HyCross, so you could be waiting many months with nothing gained.

Hello, we own a Jeep Compass Limited and a Volkswagen Polo. We seek a new car of around 15-40 lakh Rs on road max budget with a high-quality cabin and comfort. We would love it if the car were from a high-quality brand, too. Please recommend one.

Get the Toyota Innova HyCross VX(O). It delivers the most comfortable, high-quality cabin you can get under Rs. 40 lakh on-road, and the Toyota badge nails your “high quality brand” ask. Compared to your Compass and Polo, this gives you a clear step up in space and long-trip comfort. The second row is wide and supportive, the ride is plush over bad roads, and the strong-hybrid is quiet and smooth in traffic while staying efficient in the city. It is an easy, relaxing family car that still cruises confidently on highways. It also brings the peace-of-mind bit Toyota is known for, which matters when you plan to keep a car a long time. If you often carry parents or kids, they will feel the difference straight away. One honest catch: the ZX variant looks and feels even more premium, but it usually pushes past your budget in many cities. The VX(O) misses some toys, and it is not as rugged or fun to drive as your Compass. You buy this for calm and comfort.

I am planning to buy an SUV and prefer the German twins Škoda and Volkswagen. Which one is better? Also, how significant is the DSG issue in bumper-to-bumper traffic in the NCR region? This will be my fourth car, so I want to try a German brand.

Between the German twins, the choice largely comes down to personal preference, as they share the same engines, gearboxes and underpinnings. We slightly prefer the Kushaq for its cleaner design, excellent ride and handling balance and overall value proposition. As for the DSG, it isn't as big a concern as it once was. The current DSGs are far more robust than the earlier units, but if your driving is predominantly in bumper-to-bumper NCR traffic, a torque-converter automatic is still the smoother and more relaxed option over the long term. If you want to stay with a German SUV but avoid the DSG altogether, the 1.0 TSI automatic in the Kushaq and Taigun now comes with an 8-speed Aisin torque-converter, which is smooth, refined and better suited to heavy city traffic.Coming from the S-Cross Petrol, you'll notice a significant step up in performance, cabin quality, safety and driving dynamics with either car.

Hi. I am planning to purchase an automatic car under Rs 15 lakh. My driving is split equally between traffic and normal roads. The options I'm considering are: Mahindra XUV 3XO REVX A TC, Hyundai Venue HX6 DCT, Skoda Kushaq Classic Plus TC, and Kia Sonet HTX DCT. Please suggest the best option for me.

Pick the Skoda Kushaq Classic Plus automatic. Your driving mix of traffic and open roads suits its 6-speed torque converter very well. It creeps smoothly in jams and never overheats, and the 1.0 turbo petrol is punchy for quick passes. It also feels more surefooted at speed than the others here, which makes longer runs less tiring, and it’s among the safest in this lot thanks to its 5-star crash safety rating. It's also the only one here that's not a compact SUV (sub-4 metre). The Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet are tempting for the features they offer, but their DCTs aren't as smooth. The XUV 3XO with the torque converter is also a good fit and roomier, but the Kushaq still feels nicer to drive overall.Be aware that the Skoda’s cabin and feature list in Classic Plus isn't on par with the Koreans, and Skoda’s service reach is smaller. If you value a calm, durable auto for daily congestion and a confident feel on weekend runs, the Kushaq Classic Plus AT is the one to buy under Rs. 15 lakh.

Hi, I own a Wagon R 1.0 liter engine. I bought it in November 2025. I had done 2 free services of it. My car gives me about 13-15 kmpl in city driving when the AC is on. I drive at a speed of about 60 km in the city. Is this average ok? If not, then what should I do? My daily ride is about 20 km.

A city fuel efficiency of 13-15kpl with the air conditioning on is slightly on the lower side for a Wagon R 1.0, but it isn't necessarily a cause for concern, especially if you're driving in Lucknow's city traffic with frequent stops and the AC running throughout your journey.Your 20km daily commute should be enough for the engine to reach its normal operating temperature, but fuel efficiency can still vary depending on traffic conditions, idling time and driving style. We'd recommend checking that your tyre pressures are maintained at the manufacturer's recommended levels, avoiding hard acceleration and excessive idling, and using good-quality fuel from reputed fuel stations.
