Please suggest a good tyre upgrade for my Skoda Rapid. The stock tyres are Goodyear Assurance 195/55 R16. My priorities are ride comfort, low NVH, and long tyre life, in that order. My driving is primarily on cemented highways, up to 120 km/h. Also, is upgrading to a 205/55 section tyre for a wider stance advisable?

Upsizing to a 205/55 R16 profile will not only marginally increase your car’s ground clearance, but also improve braking and handling thanks to the wider contact patch. But, doing so may negatively impact your car’s fuel efficiency.

You will find multiple tyre brands depending on your budget. Michelin and Pirelli are the most expensive options. Domestic brands are more affordable, while mid-range choices include Yokohama, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Vredestein, and Continental, among others.

My daily driving is up to 10 km, and I rarely use highways, but I want a vehicle with strong performance and top safety. My budget is up to ₹20 lakh, and I have no fuel type preference. Please suggest suitable options. Since your driving is very little and almost all of it within the city, we would recommend the Skoda Kylaq automatic version. Most automatics in this segment come with an automated manual transmission (AMT), which are not smooth shifters. The Kylaq, on the other hand, comes with a torque converter (TC), which is the smoothest type of automatic transmission around. As for performance, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol is lively and strong enough, especially for the city. As for safety, it is well kitted out with safety features like standard 6 airbags, and it also secured a 5-star crash rating in the BNCAP tests.

Asked by: Henry Hi, please advise which is the best petrol considering the current E20 fuel situation. The manual says 91 octane and above is recommended. Moreover, petrol pumps also do not mention the blend clearly. I mostly fuel with Shell, assuming it is 100% petrol, but I recently heard they also mix E20. Please advise which one will be best and most trustworthy. We note you have a 2021 Honda City so you really don’t need to worry about using E20 petrol. Honda has officially stated on its website that "All Honda cars manufactured in India since 1 Jan 2009 have been E20 Material Compatible and customers can use the E20 fuel in their existing Honda cars without the need of changing any part in the car” From our lab tests, Shell petrol currently has a slightly lower ethanol percentage but it too will eventually move to a full 20 percent blend as supply stabilises. E20 has less energy than pure petrol, so you can expect some drop in fuel efficiency, but there is no evidence that it will cause significant damage to a 2021 City’s fuel system or engine, and the issue has been unnecessarily overblown on social media. The best advice is to tank up at a reputable outlet and continue using your car as normal. Don’t worry about any E20 damage.

Since your daily usage is quite high and you also frequently travel with a pillion, we'll recommend you look at the Suzuki Burgman Street EX. With its spacious seats, well-balanced suspension setup, peppy yet fuel-efficient 125cc engine and 12-inch wheels at both ends, the Burgman EX will make for a good companion. If you want to stick to 110cc scooters, we'd recommend the TVS Jupiter 110 because it comes with 12-inch wheels at both ends and has supple suspension, which will help you since you travel a lot with two people on board. It also has a handy winged preload adjuster for the monoshock, which will help you tailor the suspension with added load easily. Take a test ride of both these options before you decide.

The petrol variants of the Harrier and Safari were expected to launch today, but seem to have been delayed. Why was the launch postponed, and when can we expect the petrol models to be released? The launch of the petrol versions of the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari will happen this December for sure.
