I am looking to exchange my WagonR petrol automatic for a compact SUV. My car usage is 80% in city traffic for daily office commuting, with an average of 600 km per month. My priorities are safety, ease of driving, and reliability so the car runs every day without unexpected breakdowns. I am considering the Hyundai Venue, Skoda Kylaq, and Mahindra 3XO. The Skoda Kylaq nicely meets your priorities. Unlike others in the segment, the Skoda Kylaq comes equipped with a torque converter gearbox, which is the smoothest type to have. You will appreciate this, given that most of your driving is in city traffic.

As for safety, the car is well equipped and has secured a 5-star BNCAP rating too. While Skoda has not been known for its reliability, the Kylaq has so far been performing well.

And as for easy to drive, the Kylaq will not disappoint you as it feels light enough for the city, and the dimensions are nice and compact.

Switching now could mean losing the Rs 50,000 accessory bundle and current discount.Compared to the Skoda Kylaq and Mahindra XUV 3XO, the Elevate is a segment bigger with significantly more cabin space and luggage room. The one thing you give up is a plusher‑feeling cabin, compared with the 3XO or Kylaq. The Elevate V’s interior and touch points are more basic at this trim.If cabin ambience matters more than anything else and you’re okay with a smaller footprint, consider the XUV 3XO AX5L (preferably the AT) instead, provided the AT fits your ₹15.30 lakh budget in your city. The Kylaq 1.0 TSI is nicer to drive, but doesn’t have the cabin ambience of the 3XO.

It offers the convenience of an automatic, a comfortable ride and a slightly higher driving position, which helps build confidence for a first-time driver. It also fits well within your ₹13 lakh budget, making it a sensible and practical choice for your needs.However, you should be aware that the AMT gearbox can feel a bit jerky at low speeds in stop-go traffic, which is something you will experience in your daily 6-7 km runs.The Skoda Kylaq is also worth a serious look. In fact, you can get the automatic in the Signature variant at a similar price to the Nexon Creative. While it misses out on a few features, nothing feels like a deal breaker, and it still comes with all the essentials. More importantly, its torque converter automatic is smoother and easier to drive in traffic. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza automatic is another strong option, especially for a first-time buyer, as it is very easy to drive, smooth in traffic and known for low running and maintenance costs.So the choice comes down to priorities. Its smooth 6-speed automatic and light controls make it very friendly for first-time drivers, while its compact size helps in city use and parking. At the same time, the cabin is among the most spacious in the segment, which makes it more comfortable for family use, especially over longer drives. Mahindra’s wide service network is another advantage if you are planning to keep the car for 8-10 years.The Skoda Kylaq offers good driving manners, but the service network is not as widespread, which can matter over long-term ownership depending on your location. The Hyundai Venue is the easiest to drive and will likely be the most hassle-free from a maintenance perspective, but its rear seat is not as spacious, which makes it less ideal for regular family use.The only real compromise with the 3XO is boot space, which is smaller than both the Kylaq and the Venue.
