I’m looking to buy a 2.0-litre hybrid SUV in 2026 with a budget of ₹25 lakh. What options are likely to be available? Is Toyota planning a RAV4, Kia a Sportage, or Honda a ZRV for India, and would they fit my price point? Or is it better to consider diesel models such as the Harrier? What are the pros and cons of petrol versus diesel for my needs, and given the E20 fuel uncertainty, do you recommend choosing diesel?

Currently, there are no 2.0-litre hybrid SUVs on sale in India. Your closest option would be the Toyota Innova Hycross or Maruti Suzuki Invicto, both of which are capable MPVs.

It is unlikely that Toyota will bring the RAV4 to India anytime soon. However, Honda is expected to launch the ZR-V in 2026 with the brand’s 2.0 hybrid powertrain. Kia is also rumoured to bring the larger, three-row Sorento to India in 2026. It could come as a CKD model with local assembly for a more competitive price.

It is definitely worth looking at a diesel engine if your usage is high. Due to stricter emission regulations, the remaining diesel options are now cleaner than ever. Ironically, in some cases, they are even cleaner than petrol.

The downsides are that there aren’t many diesel options left, the DPF system needs regular attention, and the price is usually higher. New petrol cars are ready for E20 fuel, but if regulations change in the future, their compatibility is still uncertain.
