I am looking for a strong car that performs well on both city and highway driving, including bad roads, so I need good ground clearance. I also want lowest possible cabin noise and a smooth ride. My budget is around ₹15–17 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

For your budget of Rs 15-17 lakh, and considering you want a strong, stable car with good ground clearance, low cabin noise and a smooth ride over bad roads, the recently facelifted Skoda Kushaq 1.0 TSI automatic is a good option

It’s easy to drive in the city, feels secure and planted at highway speeds, and its suspension has a solid, European feel that handles broken roads confidently without feeling unsettled. The only downside is that the width of the rear seat is limited

It’s also worth waiting for the new-generation Renault Duster, which is set to launch soon. The earlier Duster was known for its excellent suspension and ability to handle rough roads with ease, and the new model is expected to carry that strength forward.

Creta and hyundai electrical parts don't last long . Inspire of having AMC they don't do the needful because of the price factor of electrical parts.

Try Honda Elevate automatic, I found it excellent for city as well as highway rides, spacious interior, high ground clearance and reliable Honda engine 😀

It is very a very good vehicle with most reliable NA engine, high ground clearance in the segment, perfectly tuned suspension both for city and highway rides, comfortable cabin, 458 litres boot space, high speed stability and ride quality. Mileage is also reasonably good. Its build quality is good.

No doubt Creta is good but I recently bought Venue SX in Aug 2025, my experience with the BS6 engine with DPF & CC is extremely bad. It is barely 7 month and 6000 kms driven the vehicle has visited workshop 03 times for usea system error, finally some part has been ordered for replacement under warranty. It’s bad why do I accept vehicle which has a manufacturing fault but I am bound to accept it. Rahul | 9956000013

I am planning to buy a petrol SUV with a budget of ₹15 lakh. My driving will be mostly in the city, and my main priorities are good mileage and strong safety. Which SUV would be the best option in this budget?

We would recommend you look at the new upcoming Skoda Kushaq. It sits above the compact SUV segment but is still not too large and is among the smaller of the mid-size SUVs, thus it remains quite easy and manageable in the city. The Kushaq is well equipped with many standard safety features and has scored a 5-star crash rating in the GNCAP tests, thus it meets your priority of safety too. Since you are driving in the city and looking for fuel efficiency too, we would suggest the 1.0 litre engine, which will launch with an 8-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. Torque convertors are the smoothest type of automatic transmission around, which you will appreciate in the city stop-and-go traffic. Being an 8-speed (earlier was a 6-speed unit), mileage should also improve over the previous car. It returned a figure of 8.5kpl in the city, 12.4 kpl on the highway, in our standard test cycle. Stay tuned to our channel as we will be driving the car shortly.

I am currently planning to buy a new car in the ₹17-19 lakh range. My priorities are safety, decent performance, and good mileage. I am considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX diesel and the Kia Seltos HTK variant. I do not have a fixed running pattern since I am a doctor, so my daily driving can range anywhere from 10 to 100 km per day. I was also thinking about waiting for MG Motor to launch a plug-in hybrid. Considering my usage pattern and priorities, what would be the best option for me?

Considering your priorities, the Kia Seltos in diesel guise would be the better choice. It is compact for the city but also has good space on the inside. The quality of the interior is very good, and the 1.5-litre diesel engine is tried and tested. It has a good amount of punch and response, and should you opt for the manual version, the clutch is light and convenient in traffic. The Seltos also has a better after-sales and service network, and Kia's are known to be quite reliable too. The Mahindra XUV7XO is also a good choice, but if you don't need an extra row of seats, it is a bit more cumbersome than the Seltos. Also, within your budget, you will only get the entry-level version of the 7XO, whereas the Seltos on HTK trim gets a decent equipment list.

Hi. I'm a first time car buyer. Want to buy a spacious and comfortable car within 11 lakhs. I don't have much of a driving experience so the car should be easy to drive and maintain. Much of the car use would be within the city and my monthly run of around 200kms. I'm considering both manual as well as automatic options. I would like to know your suggestions.

We would suggest you consider the Hyundai i20 IVT. The gearbox is smooth, the cabin is spacious, and within your budget, you can get the Sportz (O) variant. It is compact, easy to drive and park in the city, and also offers a reasonably large boot.If you want something slightly larger, you can consider the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. It is more spacious inside, more comfortable for a larger family and also has a bigger boot. The AMT gearbox is not as smooth as the CVT in the i20, but it is well-tuned and will also be more efficient.
