    I’m looking for an automatic petrol vehicle in the sub-4-metre category. I’m confused between the new Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet. Could you please advise? Also, let me know if there are any other good options in this segment.

    Being the newer of the two, the Hyundai Venue does have the edge overall. Rear legroom is better in the Venue, something the brand has improved with the new-gen car. The Venue also has the latest electrical and electronics, and so is capable of over-the-air updates to many of its control units, thereby ensuring bug fixes and functionality updates too.

    Asked by: Priyank I plan to upgrade to a twin-cylinder bike next year from my current ADV 390. I do long tours twice a year and many short/overnight rides throughout the year. However, I don’t see any twin-cylinder offering in the touring category that excites me. I’m looking for a bike in the 500-600 cc segment. Are there any exciting launches scheduled next year that are worth waiting for? The BMW F 450 GS will be launched in India next year. It gets a 420cc, twin-cylinder engine putting out 48hp. Additionally, the Norton Atlas and Norton Atlas GT will also make their way to our market next year. The Atlas adventure bike is the more accessible model in the new Norton line-up, and powering these bikes is a 585cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that is said to make around 70hp. Make sure to test ride both machines when they are launched before making a purchase.

    Asked by: Harsh I’m a beginner rider, 5′6″ tall, planning to buy a new bike next year. My first choice is the Triumph Scrambler 400X - I’ve had my eyes on it since early 2024. However, I’m also considering the newly launched TVS RTX 300 because of its overall package, including a quick shifter and cruise control. I need the bike for daily office commutes, occasional weekend rides, and some soft trail riding. I won’t regret buying either, but I’d like to hear expert opinions to help decide. Both the bikes you have mentioned will fit the bill for your use case. However, both the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the TVS Apache RTX 300 have tall seat heights (830mm or more), and for a new rider of your stature, they could feel like a little too much, especially at slow speeds and during off-roading. We would strongly recommend a test ride of both before you decide to go ahead with your purchase. If these two prove to be too tall for you, something more street-biased (and crucially, lower) like the Triumph Speed 400 or Apache RTR 310 from these respective brands would be a good fit.

Between the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV700, it’s the Mahindra car that we would recommend. It is more comfortable, has strong engines, offers a more refined driving experience and has better features.The Safari scores well on design, feels a bit tougher over bad sections and has the more spacious third row, but all things considered, the Mahindra XUV700 is better. It might be worth waiting for a few months, however, as the XUV700 facelift is just around the corner.

    Asked by: Ajay I am 4′11″ tall and want a lightweight petrol scooter with a budget of ₹1 lakh. Please suggest. The lightest petrol-powered scooters in India are the Yamaha Fascino and Yamaha RayZR, both coming in just under the 100-kilo mark. Other models you can consider are the TVS Scooty Zest 110 and Honda Dio 110, both of which are just a few kilos heavier than the Yamahas. Don't purely consider the specifications on paper. We would strongly recommend you go to a showroom and at least sit on the scooters to see which one is manageable for your petite physique.
