Currently using a 2021 model Dominar 400, driven for around 23000kms. Now, I want to purchase an ADV motorcycle. My daily commute to and fro from the office is about 40 km, much of it on the highway. I had shortlisted the Himalayan 450, but the upcoming Norton looks promising too. Can you suggest a worthy upgrade from Dominar?

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is one of the most sorted sub-500cc, single-cylinder adventure tourers in India and will make for a good step up from your Dominar. While the performance on tap will largely be the same, the Himalayan's suspension and seating comfort, as well as overall quality levels, will definitely feel a tangible notch higher than the Dominar's.

We'd recommend you go for the Himalayan right now over the upcoming Norton Atlas because the latter is likely to be in a different price bracket entirely. Also, its India launch timing and service reach remain shrouded in mystery, and for a daily rider, those legitimate concerns matter more than a feel-good brochure.

I currently own a Himalayan 450 and am looking to upgrade to a twin-cylinder ADV with a refined engine and good electronics. I mainly use the bike for long rides and highway touring and am not particularly interested in off-roading. My budget is up to Rs 8 lakh. The BMW F 450 GS is the only twin-cylinder adventure motorcycle that fits in your budget, while the Honda NX500 E-Clutch is another option you can check out. That said, both these motorcycles are not a significant upgrade over your Himalayan 450 in terms of performance and the on-road price of the NX500 E-Clutch stretches over your Rs 8 lakh budget. We suggest you wait until the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 and the Norton Atlas GT will be available in the Indian market. Take a test ride of both these motorcycles and pick which one suits you best.

I am a first-time car buyer and have recently started driving, so I have limited driving experience. My usage will be around 200-300km within Chennai city, with highway travel to my native place, around 650km away, twice a year. I am looking for a reliable and safe car with a naturally aspirated (NA) engine. I am not looking for fancy or premium features, although useful features would be appreciated. The car will mainly be used by a family of five, including three adults and two children. My budget is around Rs 10 lakh, but it is not a strict limit.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza petrol manual. It is the most sensible first car for your needs. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth, easy to drive and forgiving for a new driver, while the clutch and gearbox are light and user-friendly in city traffic. The Brezza is also one of the most reliable cars in the segment, with Maruti’s strong service network and low maintenance costs, which is important for a first-time owner. It is also a safe car with a solid build and good crash test ratings. The rear seat is comfortable enough for three adults on short city runs, and the boot is adequate for your occasional long highway trips. In your budget, you can get the base LXi variant with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. While it misses out on fancy features, it covers all the essentials well.

I’m a first-time car buyer. My usage will be around 40% city driving and 60% on state highways, with a monthly running of approximately 800-1,000 km. The roads are somewhat okay, with some bad stretches but mostly good roads. I’m looking for an automatic transmission. Hatchbacks, compact sedans, and compact SUVs are all fine. My budget is flexible, between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 14 lakh. I have shortlisted 3-4 vehicles, namely: 1. Honda Amaze ZX CVT 2. Maruti Brezza ZXi Automatic 3. Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 Automatic Any other car recommendations are also welcome. I am currently posted in Varanasi, if that helps.

With 40 percent city and 60 percent highway use, the 3XO is the better fit among your three choices. Its turbo petrol engine has considerably stronger low- and mid-range performance than the Brezza and Amaze, which will be useful on state highways, particularly when carrying passengers and luggage. It also has a well-judged ride that copes well with broken roads.The Brezza ZXi AT would be the choice for easier ownership. Its petrol engine is smoother, and Maruti's service network is a significant advantage, while its ride quality is very good on poor roads. It is also the more relaxed choice if outright performance is not important.The Amaze ZX CVT is worth considering if you prefer a sedan. Its CVT is smooth, and the suspension is comfortable over rough city roads, while the large boot is useful for highway trips. However, its engine lacks the punch of the 3XO, particularly with a full load, and the cabin is narrower.The Skoda Kylaq 1.0 TSI AT is also worth adding to the shortlist if driving enjoyment is important. It has a well sorted chassis and a conventional automatic, making it particularly appealing for your highway heavy usage.
