The Mahindra XUV500 has been recalled to upgrade the side curtain airbag software. The recall will affect around 55,000-60,000 units, and all of them are XUVs manufactured on or before July 2014. According to the company, the upgrade will be carried out free of cost for customers who will be contacted individually. This upgrade is limited only to a software change; no other parts will be replaced.

This is the second recall for the Mahindra's flagship XUV500. The first was in March 2013, when 24,695 XUV500s (W6, W8 variants) were recalled to check for oil seepage from a hose that would have eventually led to a gradual increase in steering effort.  Since the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Voluntary Code on Vehicle Recall came into force in July 2012, over 700,000 vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers in the Indian market.
