Volkswagen is currently in the process of looking at various vans that, once modified and localised, will give them a product with which they can take on the Toyota Innova. Sources say nothing is being ruled out and the company is currently looking at all manner of vans in it's portfolio except for the most expensive luxury versions like their 'Caravelle'.

Also among other products VW is looking at is their 2011 Geneva Motor Show star, the all-new Microbus concept, also called the Bulli. Designed to echo the 1950s original, but modern at the same time, the two tone design has a very locomotive nose and a squat stance.

The six-seat concept is 3.99metres long, 1.75metres wide and 1.7metres tall. This means that seating is three abreast, both at the front and the rear. VW could also increase the wheelbase for India and provide a third row, making this a nine-seater.

According to VW, a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre turbodiesel motor will suit this car. The Microbus’ cabin features a removable iPad as a centre console, seats that fold easily to create a compact camper, and a stereo developed with Fender for that live music feel. The new Microbus is likely to be based on a longer version of Volkswagen’s Golf platform (MQB) and this will give VW great economies of scale.
