Volkswagen has announced that it will put the Beetle Dune concept into production in 2016. The Beetle Dune concept was first showcased at the Detroit Motor Show in 2014, and was based on the Beetle R-Line. The company had referred to the concept as the “Baja Bug for the 21st Century”.
The Dune Concept showcased last year featured honeycomb mesh grille inserts, bi-xenon headlights, a ventilated hood, and gloss black trim along with a dual exhaust system. It also got extended wheel-arches, 19-inch aluminium wheels, chrome skid plates, brushed aluminium rocker panels and an increased ride height.
The concept was powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-charged four-cylinder engine generating 210bhp and sent power to the front wheels through a six-speed DSG doual-clutch gearbox.
Volkswagen has, however, not provided any details of the production car yet.
