Volvo has announced that the new XC90 SUV has received 266 pre-orders. The SUV was launched in May, priced at Rs 64.9 lakh for the Momentum trim and Rs 77.9 lakh for the top Inscription trim. Volvo says that the orders are for the Inscription trim only, and that first deliveries of the XC90 will begin later this month.
Tom von Bonsdorff, MD, Volvo Auto India said, "We already have a positive momentum, before we start deliveries of the new XC90, so we are on track for another good year at Volvo Cars. The XC90 paves the way for a portfolio of exciting new cars to come in the following years."
Based on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the new XC90 is powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that makes 225bhp and 48kgm of torque. It comes mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with power being driven to all wheels.
Globally, the XC90 has received more than 57,000 orders, and the Volvo plant in Gothenburg has started a third production shift to meet customer demand for the new SUV. The company also claims that 76 percent of customers are choosing the top Inscription trim.
Volvo currently has dealerships in south and west Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Vishakhapatnam, Pune and Kolkata. It plans to expand its dealership network across India by the end of this year to around 22 showrooms and workshops.
