Ford has unveiled a mildly updated version of the Europe-spec EcoSport compact SUV at the Geneva motor show. The biggest change to the updated car is to its rear, as it will be available with or without a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Models without the tailgate-mounted spare wheel will come with a different rear bumper that gets a faux diffuser, as well as a revised rear door with the license plate at its centre. This door has also been tweaked so that it can be partially opened more easily as well. Ford has showcased the Euro-spec EcoSport in S guise, and it comes in a unique deep impact blue paint shade, with a black roof and wing mirror caps as well as 17-inch alloys. It also features a heated windscreen, wing mirrors and front seats.

Ford says it has tweaked the updated EcoSport’s chassis, with revised spring and damper rates and a 10mm ride height reduction as well. It also gets updated ESP and power steering systems. On the inside, the instrument cluster is new and comes with chrome surrounds and chrome tips on window switches.

The Ford EcoSport may have seen huge popularity in India, but the same cannot be said for the European market. The car has been panned for its interior quality and driving dynamics, and while the tailgate-mounted spare wheel is a popular feature in India, it is perceived as low-rent or utilitarian in Europe. So while this update should be great news for potential EcoSport customers in Europe, it's uncertain if Ford will bring them to the Indian car.
