Tata has launched the electric version of the Tata Nano at the Geneva Show. The compact electric motor and battery pack has been neatly packaged without compromising on the cars functionality. The Nano EV is aimed primarily at the European market.

The Nano EV will use super polymer lithium battery and will have a battery range of 160km per charge.

"The electric Nano will be launched in Europe in two-and- a-half years and it will be launched in select markets,” said Tata Motors vice-chairman Ravi Kant.

Tata will also sell the Nano EV in India, but no possible timeframe has been fixed for its launch in the domestic market. "We have not decided the time line for launch of the electric Nano in India, but we are looking at it," he added.

Also on display is Tata's new flagship model, the Aria. Conceived as a global model, The Aria is expected to go on sale in the UK in spring 2011. Crucially, the Aria has been designed to meet European crash legislation — Tata Motors is aiming for a four-star EuroNCAP rating — and is said to be the most sophisticated Tata to date.
