In the latest round of safety tests conducted by Euro NCAP, the Suzuki Vitara was awarded the highest rating of five stars for occupant and pedestrian protection. The Vitara was one of the cars in a group of four which included the Fiat 500X small MPV, to undergo crash safety tests.

The Vitara scored high in occupant safety earning an 89 percent rating for adult occupant protection and 85 percent for child occupants. In terms of pedestrian safety, the Vitara earned a 76 percent rating whilst the safety assist earned the car’s lowest rating of 75 percent. The car was also praised for its autonomous emergency braking system.

The Vitara was only outdone in the field of child occupant safety by the Renault Espace MPV, which earned a rating of 89 percent.

The Fiat 500X small MPV on the other hand only earned four out of five stars with the car being marked down for not providing autonomous emergency braking system as standard on the model.

Suzuki sold the last generation of the Vitara in India known as the Maruti Grand Vitara. The company has not confirmed if this fourth generation model will come to India, however, the company has confirmed that it will be launching the S-Cross crossover in India under the name Across sometime this year.
