Skoda has begun work on an all-new crossover based on parent company Volkswagen’s MQB A0 platform. This new model will sit below the slightly larger Karoq which was unveiled recently.

While the name for the new model will be along the same lines as the Alaskan-themed Karoq and Kodiaq and follow the firm’s design language, Skoda strictly qualifies it a crossover rather than an SUV.

The new Skoda crossover will share its underpinnings with the recently unveiled Volkswagen T-Roc and the Seat Arona. Unlike those two, it is expected to be a car-based crossover unlike than Skoda's current SUVs, and is likely to ride lower and look like a cross between an estate and an SUV.

Skoda is likely to offer this new model in a front wheel-drive configuration only. Engines and transmission have not been confirmed yet, but hybrid versions are likely to be considered.  The new model will have a length of more than four metres to increase boot capacity.

Skoda has recently re-launched the Rapid Monte Carlo in India as the Edition X and is currently evaluating bringing the Karoq SUV to the country as well, which was spied in India. The Czech manufacturer has also launched the Octavia RS and the three-row Kodiaq SUV in India during 2017.
