Mercedes-Benz has crowned the sporting side of its S-class line-up with a mighty new V12-powered Mercedes-Benz S-class S65 AMG.

Powering the S65 AMG is a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine with 621bhp and 101.8kgm of torque. These help endow the 5246mm-long machine with 0-100kph performance of 4.3sec and a top speed electronically limited to 250kph.

Mercedes also claims that the powerful saloon's V12 engine is also the world’s most efficient.

The engine is hooked up to AMG’s Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox, which has three driving modes including Sport and Manual. The gearbox replaces the five-speed automatic transmission of the previous S65 AMG.

We are still to get a quote a weight figure for the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, but the model features weight-saving technology including a part-carbonfibre bonnet, a lithium-ion battery and lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels. Carbon ceramic brakes are also optional.

Featuring as standard is an AMG-tuned version of the new S-class’s Magic Body Control suspension system that reads the road ahead and automatically adjusts the suspension to suit upcoming road conditions. Other standard equipment includes an ESP Dynamic Cornering Assist system, which reduces understeer turning into corners.

Unique styling details of the S65 AMG over more standard S-classes include a new front grille, larger front air intakes, revised side air intakes, a front splitter, new front and rear bumpers, twin sets of exhaust tailpipes, and new badging.

An interior fettled with special AMG equipment, including sports seats and a bespoke steering wheel, also features.
