Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it’ll debut eight new models at the Munich Auto Show this year, which is scheduled to take place between September 7 and 12. Models making their world premiere include the all-electric EQE sedan, AMG’s first electric vehicle, and an electric Maybach concept.

  • First all-electric Mercedes-AMG expected to be high performance EQS version
  • First all-electric Mercedes-Maybach likely to be EQS SUV version

Mercedes EQE teaser: what does it reveal?

So far, Mercedes-Benz has been pretty tight-lipped about specific details on the EQE, but they have given us a little glimpse of the upcoming all-electric sedan through a couple of teaser images. The exterior photo, which shows the rear quarter of the sedan, reveals that the EQE will adopt a styling approach that's similar to the EQS'. It will be characterised by streamlined aerodynamics, muscular haunches and slender tail-lights.

The other image, which is of the interior, almost completely reveals the EQE's cabin. Unsurprisingly, it’s the MBUX Hyperscreen dominating the interior – complete with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger. Other highlights of the interior include a floating centre console, Mercedes’ signature turbine-style air vents, ambient lighting, a new three-spoke steering wheel, as well as a head-up display.

Although there has been no official word from Mercedes-Benz about the powertrain and its specifications, it is expected to be similar to the one used in the EQS. That means there could be a 450 variant with a rear axle-mounted electric motor producing 329hp and 568Nm, along with a higher-spec 580 4Matic variant with dual motor and all-wheel drive, producing 516hp and 855Nm.

Other Mercedes-Benz debuts at 2021 Munich Auto Show

Besides the EQE, Mercedes will also debut the first-ever electric AMG model. The firm says it will be a sedan, so it’s likely that it could be a high-performance version of the EQS. Although very little is known about the all-electric AMG at this point, Mercedes had previously hinted that it will have up to 751hp of power, which will make it even more powerful than the AMG GT Black Series.

The firm will also showcase an electric Maybach concept, which is said to convey “how the 100-year tradition of ultimate automotive luxury can be carried forward into a new era.” While that does not reveal what model it could be, the carmaker recently teased an ultra-luxury version of the EQS SUV, and that could possibly be the first all-electric Mercedes-Maybach.

Mercedes-Benz will also be looking to debut the EQB in Europe at the Munich Auto Show. Apart from all-electric vehicles, Mercedes-AMG will use the opportunity to introduce its first performance hybrid. This will likely be a hybrid version of the GT 73 four-door coupe with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, a 6.1kWh battery pack, all-wheel drive, and a rear axle-mounted motor that produces up to 201hp and 320Nm of torque.

Mercedes had previously said that the first hybrid AMG will have outputs in excess of 805hp and 1,000Nm. That should give it a 0-100 kph sprint time of less than three seconds. Lastly, Mercedes will also showcase the new S-Class S680 Guard and C-Class All-Terrain models.
