Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has announced that it will replace the passenger side airbag inflator in select units of the Honda Accord and Honda CR-V as a preventive measure. HCIL will recall 1,085 units of the Honda Accord and 252 units of the CR-V manufactured in 2003 for the replacement. One unit of the Honda CR-V manufactured in 2002 will also get a new airbag inflator.

Honda has said that a problem during the propellant forming process may damage the casing of the inflator when the airbag is deployed, in the event of an accident or in any other situation, thereby injuring passengers.

The recall is a part of Honda Motor Company’s global recall activity to correct a potential defect with passenger airbags announced in June this year. So far, no incident has been reported owing to this possible defect.

Honda will carry out the recall in a phased manner, and the replacement will be free of cost for owners at all the HCIL dealerships across India. Customers concerned, the company has said, will be contacted directly by Honda. Honda Accord and CR-V owners can submit their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite, created by the company, to see if their car needs this replacement.
