Tata Motors has appointed Carl-Peter Forster as the Group Chief Executive Officer of the company. Forster will have the overall responsibility of Tata Motors Operations globally, including Jaguar Land Rover.

Forster, former Chevrolet, Saab, Vauxhall and Opel boss, left GM Europe when negotiations to sell the company to Magna fell through. Prior to his stint with GM, he had worked with BMW for 13 years holding various positions including that of Managing Director of BMW South Africa and also being a part of the Managing Board of BMW,  responsible for manufacturing.

Forster was excited by the opportunity to grow Tata's business both domestically and out of India. “I am enthused by having this opportunity to work for an Indian company with such high business ethics," said Carl-Peter Forster. "People normally get 100 days, plus or minus. Give me that time and we'll meet again,” he added.

"Tata Motors expects that Forster’s induction will greatly facilitate its ambition towards being a truly international company," said Ratan Tata, chairman Tata Motors.

Jaguar Land Rover's chief executive David Smith left the company last month.
