Ford India is recalling over 3,000 units of the New Fiesta diesel that were manufactured at the factory in Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai prior to 2014. The part that has been deemed faulty is the control module for glow plugs, installed on cars from that batch.

The company has been calling the recall a ‘proactive, voluntary recall action’ to ensure customer safety and satisfaction. Ford has taken this step after they identified a problem with the part, although no accidents or injuries related to the concern were reported. The replacement will be a waterproof Glow Plug Control Module, which will be installed free of charge.

Ford India is writing to all its customers who bought cars from that batch, and is requesting them to visit their local Ford dealerships, so that the part can be replaced.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers started a voluntary recall for safety-related issues in July 2012, and since then over seven lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers, including Maruti-Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota, Ford, Honda and General Motors.
