Fiat has finally revealed its first ladder-on-frame Toro pick-up in the skin. Teasers and spy photos of the pick-up had been doing rounds on the internet for a while now. Toro is Italian for bull, and the pick-up is a huge departure from the traditionally cute-looking vehicles Fiat is famous for.

Pegged as a ‘Sports Utility Pick-up’, the double cab, luxury five-seater measures 4,915mm in length with a payload capacity of up to 1,000kg. The double front-fascia design, though debatable in terms of likeability, was intentionally kept to up the noticeability quotient of the vehicle, as per Fiat.

Designed primarily for Latin American markets, engine options for the Toro include a bi-fuel 138bhp,1.8-litre ethanol/petrol motor and a 170bhp, 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine. The smaller engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels, and the bigger diesel engine gets a six-speed manual gearbox, available in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive layouts.

The Brazil-bound Fiat Toro will come equipped with a 5.0-inch touchscreen display, GPS navigation, rear-view camera and Bluetooth connectivity. Optional additions include an electric sunroof, xenon headlights, and rain sensing wipers. Base models get 16-inch wheels, whereas the top trim gets larger 18-inch wheels with the added option of a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Expected to go on sale internationally late 2015, or early 2016, the Fiat Toro will take on the likes of the Toyota HiLux,Volkswagen Amarok and Ford Ranger in the compact pick-up truck segment.
