Fiat has revealed the Multiplay concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The Multiplay can switch between SUV and pick-up truck body styles electronically. The carmaker claims that its new concept builds on the legacy of the Multipla models of the past that redefined the relationship between exterior dimensions and interior space.

The 3.5-metre-long Fiat 600 Multipla from 1956 could seat six people, while the 1998 Multipla had three seats each in the front and back rows in a vehicle less than 4 metres long. Fiat says the new concept continues that exploration of space through an architecture that can adapt to different uses.

The Multiplay has a longitudinally sliding rear module, allowing it to switch from an SUV to a pickup. In the enclosed SUV configuration, it features six seats, and an additional seat that can be used by a pet; an outer section of this seat's cushion can be detached and be used as a leash. It even has a mounting point for a child seat and a small storage compartment.

In pickup mode, it offers four seats and an open bed for bicycles, sports equipment and other bulky items. This is made possible by the rear spoiler, which rotates to become an integrated rack. The tailgate is split horizontally and opens outwards, rather than dropping vertically.

The front passenger seat can be transformed into a lounge-style configuration. Facing the rear, it uses the dashboard as a backrest. Fiat claims that the large glass surfaces, generous side windows and the panoramic roof enhance natural light and the sense of space.

The Multiplay’s interior suggests a new screen layout for future Fiats. A large screen sits just below the windscreen and stretches across the dashboard. Physical buttons are absent.

The concept's exterior design is loosely inspired by the Fiat Multipla from before, with its influence evident in the rounded shape. The lights take inspiration from the lights at Fiat’s historic Lingotto factory at night. Unpainted wheel arches and side sills, along with chunky all-terrain tyres, may hint at the vehicle’s off-road focus.
