BMW has revealed the M760Li xDrive, which is the range-topping variant of the carmaker's luxurious 7-series.

The M760Li xDrive is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V12 engine that produces 592bhp at 5,500rpm and 81.57kgm of torque from 1,500rpm. The extra power enables the car to go from 0-100kph in 3.9 seconds – 0.8 seconds faster than the current 750i M Sport – and reach a limited top speed of 249.4kph.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which features M Performance-tuned software to enable a sportier performance. Drivers can change the gear manually using the wheel-mounted paddles. BMW is offering its xDrive all-wheel-drive system as standard and the system has been modified to come with a rear bias, according to the company.

Visual changes over the standard 7-series include bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels, a quad exhaust system and an M Performance body kit which includes subtly reprofiled bumpers at the front and rear. An optional rear spoiler is also available. The car’s exhausts feature valves which can open to enhance the sound of the V12 engine.

Inside, the luxurious cabin also gets updates including a new M Performance steering wheel, an illuminated V12 logo and M pedals. The M760Li xDrive V12 comes with BMW’s Executive Drive Pro adaptive suspension setup and gets an extensive list of standard equipment, including adaptive LED headlights, keyless entry and start, electrically adjustable seats front and rear, a wood trim and metallic highlights.

Rivals for the new range-topping 7-series include the Audi S8 and Mercedes-AMG S65.
