Luxury car maker BMW has put on sale its top of the line 7 series variant in India. This five seat ultra luxury sedan features a new 6.0-liter V-12 engine which follows BMW’s latest method of turbo charging and directs fuel injection to boost power. It churns out an impressive 535 bhp.

The BMW 760Li comes with brand-new eight-speed transmission, also seen on the new 5-series, with its innovative gear set configuration, offering additional gears while maintaining the dimensions and weight of a conventional six-speed automatic. This model comes only in the long wheelbase layout. Heated and cooled front and rear seats are standard equipment along with a long list of other features.

The 760Li calls attention to the presence of extra cylinders with V-12 badges on the side vents, a larger double-kidney grille, and four ports to the chrome exhaust tips instead of two. All BMW 7 series variants feature a new steel and aluminum platform that has longer wheelbase and wider track than the current models.

To drive it is as you would expect, given the outputs, very brisk indeed. BMW Claims a 4.6 second timing to 100kmph which seems completely believable for a car this size. Peak torque is available from 1500rpm onwards and it doesn’t let up until 5000rpm. Trying to exercise the engine, it results in so much speed that you are forced to back off before the engine gets even remotely vocal. And for a turbocharged engine, the response is extremely clean and immediate.

The only real sign of forced induction the faintest distant hiss. Other than marginal extra refinement, the 760Li doesn’t do a great deal that the 750Li doesn’t already. What the 760Li does do rather well though is to fill the role of the top of the line Chairman’s Car. The BMW 760Li comes with a price tag of Rs 1.65crore; of which, the registration and tax charges alone come to whooping Rs 25lakh.
