Audi India has launched a petrol variant of its Q7 SUV. The SUV in its latest avatar is powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI V6 quattro, the same engine doing duty in the A6 saloon.

The supercharged 2995cc V6 motor delivers a max power of a whooping 333bhp and 44.9kgm of max torque between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm. The engine is matted to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the company claims the SUV can hit a ton in under 7 seconds before reaching its top speed of 245kph.

The all new 8-speed automatic transmission considerably reduces fuel consumption and emissions on the Q7 as compared to its predecessors. The Audi 3.0 TFSI employs TFSI technology for the first time and combines supercharging of the engine with petrol direct injection.

"The Audi Q7 -- the high performance luxury SUV, has been one of the main contributors to our success in the Indian market... We are confident that it will further help us consolidate our leadership position in the luxury space," Michael Perschke, Head-Audi India, said in a statement.

Deliveries of the new Audi Q7 3.0-litre TFSI Quattro will start in January 2011 and is priced at Rs Rs 59.29lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new petrol variant will join the Q7’s diesel brigade that comprises of 4.2-litre TDI and 3.0-litre TDI engines.
