Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division has revealed its C 63 Cabriolet at the New York auto show, alongside a host of new Mercedes models. The car is being offered with two different power outputs.
The C 63 Cabriolet gets a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine that produces 469bhp and 66.22kgm of torque. Meanwhile, in the more powerful C 63 S Cabriolet, the engine produces 503bhp and 71.33kgm of torque. Drive is channelled via AMG’s seven-speed Speedshift automatic gearbox to the rear wheels.
According to Mercedes-AMG, the 1,910kg C 63 Cabriolet and 1,925kg C 63 S Cabriolet can go from 0-100kph in 4.2 seconds and 4.1 seconds respectively. Both are limited to a top speed of 249.44kph, that can be extended to 280.02kph with an optional Driver’s Package that includes revised engine management software.
The C 63 Cabriolet is underpinned by a retuned version of the four-link front and multi-link rear suspension already used by the C 63 Coupe. The C 63 gets 18-inch wheels, while the C 63 S gets 19-inch wheels as standard.
The styling of C 63 Cabriolet is largely based on that of the C 63 Coupe. Its exterior features a bespoke front bumper with large air ducts and integrated splitter element, as well as a new aluminium bonnet that is 60mm longer than that seen on standard C-Class Cabriolet models, and widened front and rear wings. There are also wider sills underneath the doors and a newly designed rear bumper housing signature quad exhausts pipes.
As is the case with its less powerful siblings, the C 63 Cabriolet receives a fully automatic fabric roof that can be opened and closed at the push of a button at speeds of up to 49.88kph. Mercedes-AMG is also offering an optional Acoustic Hood with added sound deadening material for reduced noise levels. Other options include an Airscarf neck heater and wind-reducing Aircap function.
Both, the C 63 and the C63 S models feature variable damping control across three modes - Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. They also get AMG’s so-called Drive Select system which provides the choice between four differing driving modes – Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Race. A variable electro-mechanical steering system enables the driver to alter the characteristics in Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes.
Mercedes-AMG also unveiled the new four-wheel-drive GLC 43 4Matic and E 43 4Matic at the show, both powered by a smaller twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine delivering 362bhp and 395bhp respectively.
