Maserati has launched the 2018 update for its Ghibli luxury sedan, priced from Rs 1.34 crore to Rs 1.45 crore (ex-showroom, India). Unlike the outgoing model that was available in a single trim, the new Ghibli is offered in three variants – Diesel, GranLusso and GranSport. The three can be differentiated visually by the treatment of the front and rear bumpers; the latter two also get more equipment.

Under the hood, all three share the same Euro-VI-compliant, 3.0-litre, V6 diesel engine as the previous model. The motor, which features AdBlue and start-stop technology, produces 275hp and 600Nm of peak torque, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. Maserati claims a 0-100kph time of 6.3sec, a top speed limited to 250kph, and an ARAI-tested fuel efficiency of 16.9kpl.

Both inside and out, the new model isn’t all that different from the outgoing one. However, the higher-spec GranLusso and GranSport trims are equipped with new adaptive LED headlamps, the Skyhook adaptive suspension system and the Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC), along with Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Ghibli doesn’t have any direct competitors in India, but when it comes to price and powertrain, the Jaguar XJ 3.0 and the BMW 730d are potential rivals; though they are both larger than the Maserati.

In the past few months, the Italian brand has launched the 2018 Quattroporte GTS at about Rs 2.7 crore and the new Levante SUV at Rs 1.45 crore in India.
