UPDATE: Mahindra XUV500 facelift engine and variant details revealed

Mahindra is in the process of introducing a yet another updated version of its popular XUV500. A market launch is rumoured to take place sometime later this month.

A new set of spy shots now reveal the updated SUV’s interior. The facelift will come with tan-coloured leather seating surfaces with quilted cross-stitching. The dashboard, as mentioned before, gets an all-black theme with faux-leather-like soft-touch material. Additional bits on the updated XUV500 include a mix of piano black and faux-aluminium trim on the centre console which helps differentiate between this model and its predecessor. The refreshed model will continue to be offered with aluminium pedals – at least on its highest variant. Mahindra is also expected to update the car's infotainment system.

A few days ago, a first set of spy shots uncovered the updated XUV500's exterior styling. Up front, it gets slightly re-profiled headlamps with projector units and LED Daytime Running Lamps. The new-look grille gets a thick chrome surround and also gets Mercedes A-class-like chrome bits, all over. It also gets minor design tweaks to its front and rear bumpers. The top-spec XUV500 will also get dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The new XUV500’s rear receives major styling changes where the vertical tail-lamps have been replaced by new triangular units placed horizontally, just below the rear windscreen. It also gets a restyled tailgate with chrome accents above the license plate enclosure. Under the hood, it will come with an upgraded 2.2-litre engine with more power.

Upon launch, this facelift will take on the likes of the Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta (also due for a facelift) and (to some extent) the Jeep compass.

Later this year, Mahindra is also expected to launch the new Rexton-based SUV, which will sit above the XUV500 in the Indian market.
