The Detroit motor show, officially titled the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), is the first international show of 2017 and will play host to new car unveilings from a number of major manufacturers.

Here are all the cars and concepts expected to be showcased at the event.

Mercedes-Benz E-class Coupé

Expect the new Mercedes E-class Coupé to attract plenty of attention when the show gets under way. All up, the German carmaker plans to offer up to five E-class Coupé models internationally, with the choice of both four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

Kia GT

The bold new Kia GT is also widely rumoured to be bound for the show, following a recent teaser vehicle that showed the sports saloon topping 241kph at the Nürburgring.

New Toyota Camry

Toyota will take the wraps off a new US-market Camry. While Lexus has a press conference scheduled, it has so far been tight-lipped about what it might show. A third Toyota group conference will reveal news relevant to both brands.

New Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

A new version of the track-focused Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is also set to be launched at the Detroit motor show. A rival to the Porsche 911 GT3, the ZR1’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 is expected to be ramped up to produce over 710hp. The track-focused supercar will also have a massive, fixed rear wing and lightweight wheels.

Rinspeed Oasis

The quirky self-driving concept will be on display at the Detroit motor show following its official reveal at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas a week earlier. The concept features solar panels and can rotate on the spot.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace

Volkswagen will debut the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace in Detroit. The more practical Tiguan sits on a wheelbase that’s 11cm longer than the regular car and has a body that is 22cm longer. It is expected to be offered with the same 2.0-litre TDI diesel options and a choice of 1.4- and 2.0-litre petrol engines as the standard car in international markets.

Honda Odyssey MPV

Honda will show a new generation of its Odyssey MPV in Detroit, which focuses on the North American market.

Porsche, however, is one prominent manufacturer that won’t be in Detroit. It had a major presence at the 2016 Los Angeles motor show and also plans to attend the New York motor show in April 2017.

On the plus side, Detroit claims to offer six unique shows in one. The first is an 'ultra-luxury automotive event'called The Gallery where a collection of luxury cars will be put on show. The likes of Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Rolls-Royce are usually represented.

The show’s second act is Automobili-D, a dedicated exposition focused on the rapidly evolving automobile and mobility landscape. John Krafcik, CEO of Google’s self-driving car project – now called Waymo and using Chrysler Pacifica MPVs – will kick-off the event with a keynote presentation. Nearly 50 start-ups from around the globe will be present at the event.

The remaining segments of the show are the press days (January 9-10), industry days (January 11-12 January) and charity preview (January 13), before the doors are finally opened to the public for nine days from Saturday, January 14.
