BSA Bikes in India (1)

As of now, BSA has just one model on sale in India, the Gold Star 650. It is currently the only BSA bike available for sale in India. The BSA Gold Star 650 comes with a powerful 652cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine and is available in two variants: Standard and Legacy Edition. The BSA bike price in India starts at ₹3.10 lakh and goes up to ₹3.45 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and colour.

The BSA Gold Star 650 primarily rivals the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, making it a direct alternative for those looking to buy modern-retro bikes with heritage brand names. This BSA bike also encounters strong competition from the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic 650 and, to a certain degree, retro-styled motorcycles such as the Kawasaki Z650RS. The brand has not officially announced any upcoming bikes for the Indian market and is purely focused on premium, retro-styled petrol motorcycles.

BSA, which stands for Birmingham Small Arms, is the most prominent name among British motorcycle manufacturers. While the brand was known historically for its vintage and classic bikes, BSA was also once the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer.  The BSA name was revived in 2016 by Classic Legends, who have also relaunched the Yezdi and Jawa brands, and the Gold Star 650 is now their modern-day flagship.

The BSA Gold Star bike, in terms of design, really goes back to its traditional roots. The usage of chrome, the traditional BSA badging, the wire-spoke wheels, and a clean, ageless design all contribute to its strong vintage BSA bike charm. Despite the old-school styling, this BSA bike is equipped with modern features like fuel injection, ABS, USB charging ports, and contemporary braking hardware.

I own a Honda CB 350 H'ness 2022 model. It is doing great when it comes to the engine, but the parts feel substandard. I would like to upgrade to a 650cc or a 750cc bike. Kindly suggest a model for daily commute and occasional long trips.

If you want a 650cc bike that can be used daily, the models at the forefront are the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and BSA Gold Star 650. Both have torquey engines - albeit ones that sound and behave very differently - with upright ergonomics making them a good fit for daily usage. Do bear in mind that both bikes are much heavier than your current Honda CB350 H'ness and will demand some caution before you get used to their size and heft.
If you want something a little more unique, then the Kawasaki Z650 or Z650RS makes for genuinely usable big bikes. While their prices are more than double those of the Royal Enfield and BSA, they really are hassle-free, punchy, well-built machines that will serve you well for a long time.
One thing to note with the Kawasaki 650s is that they have low ground clearance, which could be a factor that influences your purchase if your city doesn't have good roads.
