This is a spray on and wash off bike cleaner, and depending on the size of your bike, you should be able to get about 6-10 washes out of it.

British brand Muc-Off is renowned for much more than just its cheeky name, and they’ve spent the better part of three decades formulating a huge variety of motorcycle- and bicycle-specific care products. Big Bad Bikes is the official Muc-Off distributor in India and they sent us a few items to try out. The most interesting of these is the famous Muc-Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner.

This is a cleaner that you spray onto your bike, wait a few minutes, lightly agitate the dirt (if needed) and then spray the bike down with clean water. Where Muc-Off differentiates itself is in its claim that this cleaner is biodegradable, which should ease the guilt of watching all the runoff water flow away from your motorcycle.

More importantly, they say the Bike Cleaner is an alkaline formula that is safe on cables, seals, brake pads, brake discs, matt or gloss surfaces and even carbon fibre. Still, it’s recommended not to let this sit on your bike for too long and you definitely don’t want it drying in the sun because it can leave permanent stains. It’s also smart to test a small area before spraying it all over your bike.

Using the Bike Cleaner is as easy as the instructions suggest and it really makes the dirty aspect of cleaning your bike both easier and quicker. There’s less work involved here than with a conventional shampoo wash.

We’ve used a similar product called MotoMuck, and I think that was more potent and would do a little better for things like filthy dirt bikes etc. But the Muc-Off cleaner also does a very convincing job and it feels a little less serious while bringing the eco-friendly benefits, so I’d lean towards this for more normal use.

The biodegradable claims are part of the appeal of using this.

A 1-litre bottle costs just over Rs 1,000 and depending on the size of your bike, you should be able to get about 6-10 washes out of it. Clearly then, this isn’t the most economical product, especially for daily use. But if you’re the sort of person who likes to occasionally wash and then meticulously detail your motorcycle, you’ll enjoy using something like this.

That’s because it helps you quickly get past the tedious aspect of removing the excess muck before you can settle into cleaning and shining up every nook and cranny on your bike. Yes, it’s a bit nerdy, but it’s also a rather therapeutic process that I quite look forward to. So having a convenient yet effective product that aids the process like this is worth the expense in my books.
