Based on the MT-09 platform, Yamaha has revealed a limited-edition Abarth version of the retro-styled XSR900. It comes with a whole lot of carbon fibre bits and leans towards the Cafe racer.

It will have the same 847cc, inline triple engine borrowed from the MT-09, and churns out 113hp. Born out of Yamaha's association with its MotoGP team and its earlier parent firm Fiat, the modified XSR900 is ready to offer unique riding experience, different from the ones already on offer from Yamaha's naked and half-naked retro motorcycles.

The XSR900 Abarth Limited Edition spots a carbon fibre fairing and rear-seat cowl, as well as a full Akrapovic exhaust system that culminates in a stacked end-can, which appears similar to the Ducati 959 Panigale. Taking the retro-modern cafe racer a step further, it gets the same traction control, ABS and slipper-clutch features from the standard XSR900.

The catch with the Abarth limited edition, however, is that only 695 units will be produced, and each will have a production-numbered aluminium plate that will clarify its authenticity.

At 1 pm on January 17, 2017, Yamaha's dedicated online registrations will go live and the first 95 customers to place order will get the invitation for an exclusive VIP Abarth experience on a first-come first-serve basis. The remaining 600 units will be made available through Yamaha dealerships from April 2017.
