KTM teases new 160 Duke for India

Here are all the things we can deduce.

Early this year, we exclusively reported that KTM is working on a new entry-level motorcycle that will replace the 125 Duke as it was struggling with slow sales before being discontinued. The teaser shows a silhouette of what supposedly could be the KTM 160. However, the teaser doesn’t offer a lot of information regarding the design and mechanicals. For starters, the headlight is going to be LED and the alloys also seem to be carried over from the Gen 3 390 Duke and RC 390.

There appears to be a larger gap between the header pipe and the engine block, and the exhaust ends much earlier, similar to the 200 Duke and unlike the 250 and 390. This supports the expectation that the 160’s engine will be based on the 200 Duke’s motor.

The upcoming KTM 160 Duke will be underpinned by the existing KTM 200 platform. This means the 160 Duke is expected to carry forward the second-generation design already seen on the 200 Duke.

It will feature the familiar trellis frame, paired with 43mm upside-down front forks and a monoshock at the rear. In terms of features, expect dual-channel ABS and an LCD display.

KTM 160 launch date in india

It is expected to be launched around festive season

Powering the KTM 160 Duke will be a new engine derived from the 200 Duke’s motor. Output is expected to be in the 19-20hp range, which is a significant step up from the earlier 125cc KTM engine that made 14.5hp. This would also give KTM an edge over Yamaha’s 155cc offering (18.4hp), while staying below the 25hp mark of the 200cc KTMs.

The launch of the new KTM 160 models should take place just before the festive season kicks off.
