  • BS6 Gixxer 250 is priced at Rs 1.63 lakh, while the BS6 Gixxer SF 250 now costs Rs 1.74 lakh

  • Prices for the naked bike and its faired sibling have increased by about Rs 3,000

  • Power and torque remain nearly identical to the BS4 bikes

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 are now available with BS6-compliant engines. The naked Gixxer 250 is priced at Rs 1.63 lakh, while the faired version – the Gixxer SF 250 – is priced at Rs 1.74 lakh. As for the Gixxer SF in Suzuki's MotoGP colours, it'll cost you slightly more at Rs 1.75 lakh.

How competitively have the BS6 Gixxer 250s been priced?

Compared to their BS4 counterparts, the BS6 Gixxer 250 costs Rs 3,400 more while the BS6 Gixxer SF 250 is priced Rs 3,000 higher. This sort of competitive price hike is what we expected for the 150s as well, since those bikes were already fuel-injected. However, Suzuki had increased prices for the BS6 Gixxer 150s by a large Rs 12,000 margin. We're glad to see that wasn't the case with the Gixxer 250s. The Bajaj Dominar 250's competitive price tag of Rs 1.60 lakh may have played a role here in Suzuki’s less than expected hike.

What's different on the BS6 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250?

At the launch of the Gixxer SF 250 last year, the manufacturer had revealed the bike was developed with the upcoming BS6 norms in mind and now, with the addition of a new exhaust and ECU, Suzuki has updated it to comply with the more stringent emission norms. Suzuki has also managed to keep its power and torque figures similar to those of the BS4 models, with the 249cc engine on both bikes making 26.5hp at 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm of torque at 7,300rpm. In comparison to the BS4 bikes, peak power is identical, but is produced 300rpm higher in the rev range. Meanwhile, torque has seen a 0.4Nm drop but is produced 200rpm earlier in the rev range. Both bikes remain visually identical to their BS4 counterparts.

Suzuki revealed its entire BS6 line-up at Auto Expo 2020 and had plans to launch these models back in March 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed those plans by a few months.

What about the competition?

While the Gixxer SF 250 doesn't have a direct rival, the naked Gixxer 250 faces competition from the Yamaha FZ25 and the Bajaj Dominar. Yamaha is yet to reveal the price of the BS6 FZ25.
