Aprilia is readying its second small-displacement scooter for India, called the SR125. Slotting below the impressive SR150, it’s a premium scooter which is set to launch in a few months and is reportedly undergoing homologation at ARAI.

It shares its styling with the more powerful SR150, like the twin-headlamp on the front cowl, 14-inch wheels shod with fat rubber, snazzy paint schemes and decals inspired from Aprilia’s Moto GP bikes. Around the rear too, the sporty scooter gets split grab-rails like the SR150. The only way to tell the smaller engine under its skin is its ‘125’ badging.

Power will come from a 125cc engine that’s likely to make 9.4hp and 8.2Nm, and will be paired with a CVT automatic gearbox. Just like the SR150’s motor is based on that from the Vespa 150, the smaller SR’s engine will be derived from the 125cc engine found in the VespaSXL and VXL 125s.

Save for the engine, much of the hardware for the SR125 is likely to be shared with the SR150. The scooter is suspended on telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear, and it is likely to get a 220mm front disc brake.

At Rs 68,806 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the SR150 is quite a steal for a fun, premium scooter. So, expect the SR125 to be even more affordable and more competitively priced.
