2021 BMW S 1000 R styling and features

The styling is new for 2021 with a redesigned headlamp, tank, radiator shrouds and belly pan that give the bike a sharper look. The rear, meanwhile, has been borrowed from its fully-faired supersport sibling. The new S 1000 R also boasts of a comprehensive electronic package. This includes a 6.5-inch TFT display, three riding modes, wheelie control, cornering ABS, engine brake control and traction control.

2021 BMW S 1000 R engine

The 2021 S 1000 R’s engine is directly derived from the latest S 1000 RR unit, but in a different state of tune. On this bike, it produces 165hp at 11,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 9,250rpm and is Euro 5 compliant. BMW Motorrad has also said that the torque curve is now flatter and a large chunk of it is available at as low as 3,000rpm. This flatter curve comes as a consequence of the compression ratio increasing from 12 to 12.5:1 and from new cam grindings. Given the new numbers, the final three gear ratios have been made taller to reduce engine rpm and improve efficiency while cruising.

The S 1000 R uses a 120/70-17 front tyre and a 190/55-17 rear, on cast aluminum wheels. That said, lightweight forged aluminum and carbon fiber wheels are available as aftermarket options. The front suspension is handled by a 45mm USD fork, while the rear employs a link-actuated monoshock. Like always, semi-active electronic suspension is an available option. The braking system consists of twin 320mm rotors up front with four-piston radial-mount calipers, with the rear using a 220mm single rotor and single-piston floating caliper.

2021 BMW S 1000 R price and launch

BMW Motorrad is yet to reveal a price for the updated S 1000 R even in its international markets. At a more local level, considering that a large number of the company’s bigger bikes are also sold in India, we could expect the updated S 1000 R to make its way here as well.
