Hi, I am confused between the Hyundai Creta automatic and the Honda Elevate automatic. My usage is predominantly on city roads. I find the Creta to be much quieter and more refined compared to the Elevate, whose cabin noise I do not like. However, I am unsure if this should be a deciding factor. Which car would be a better choice for my usage, and is prioritising cabin quietness the right approach?

The Creta feels calmer at idle and 40-60 km/h, which matches your preference. Its IVT tuning gives very smooth creep at 10-20 km/h for bumper‑to‑bumper traffic, and the suspension rounds off speed breakers better around 20-30 km/h. My family currently owns a 2012 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXI, which is nearing 15 years of use. We are planning to upgrade and were initially considering the Honda Elevate for its reliability and lower dependence on electronics. However, the launch of the new Renault Duster has created some confusion. Our usage is about 90% city driving, with a 200 km highway trip once a month. Our budget is around ₹15–17 lakh. Fuel efficiency is important but not the top priority—our main focus is on comfort, performance, and fewer electronic components. Given these requirements, should we choose the Renault Duster or stick with the Honda Elevate?

Go for the Honda Elevate V CVT - for your city-heavy use and your wish for fewer gadgets, it is the safer, easier long-term choice. Moving up from your Alto K10, the Elevate will feel like a big step up in seat height, cabin space and ride comfort, and the CVT automatic - which changes gears on its own - is smooth and stress-free in slow traffic. Honda keeps the features simple on the V trim; the basics are solid, and the brand’s track record for reliability and fuss-free service fits your “less electronics” brief well. For 90% city and one 200 km trip a month, the 1.5 petrol is calm and easy to drive; it is not a rocket, but it pulls cleanly and feels predictable, which matters more in daily use.One thing to be aware of: when you press hard for an overtake, the engine gets a bit loud, and the shove is only average. We can completely understand why your family loved the Mahindra XEV 9S. It is feature‑packed, very refined and smooth, and has enough space for your 4-5 family members, so as a family car it fits your brief well. For your daily 50km commute, the XEV 9S is actually ideal, provided you can install a home charger - you’ll hardly scratch the range of the 59kWh pack in regular city use.It’s your 600km highway trip every three months, when life with an EV requires more planning. With the 59kWh battery, you will have to stop for a fast charge at least once mid‑way, and often again at your final destination if you don’t have a charger there. The public charging network has definitely improved, but charging an EV is still not as quick or as effortless as filling a tank with petrol or diesel. So if you are willing to sacrifice some time and take a bit of extra effort on your three‑monthly highway drives, you can confidently go ahead with the XEV 9S.If you don’t want the hassle of hunting for highway chargers and waiting typically 30-40 minutes each time, then you should look at the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic instead. It has broadly similar features to the 9S, is very comfortable, and for frequent long‑distance touring, it is actually better suited. The XUV 7XO’s suspension is more composed at speed than the softer‑sprung 9S, which can feel a bit floaty on highways.

For your requirement, the Skoda Kushaq Classic Plus 1.0 TSI MT does make a lot of sense. It offers good body control and a confident feel at speed, which will feel familiar coming from the EcoSport. The 1.0 turbo petrol also has strong performance, making it easy to drive in both city and highway conditions.The Skoda Kylaq, in a more feature-rich Signature variant, is also a very strong option. Despite being smaller, it still feels planted and confidence-inspiring to drive, so you will not feel a big drop in stability. The main difference compared to the Kushaq is rear seat space, where knee room is just about adequate for adults, while the Kushaq offers more room and better comfort for rear passengers. At the same time, the Kylaq gives you more features for your money, which makes it a very well-rounded package in this price range.The Kia Seltos HTE is the most spacious and comfortable option among the three and the easiest to live with. It uses a 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is very smooth and refined, making it great for daily driving. However, it does not have the same outright punch as the turbo petrol engines in the Skoda models, so it will not feel as exciting or responsive when you push it.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi AT is the best fit among your options. It uses a smooth torque converter automatic, which is ideal for city traffic and more reliable in the long run. The engine is simple, proven and efficient, and Maruti’s service network and low maintenance costs make ownership very easy. It also offers good ride comfort and a spacious cabin, which adds to its family appeal.The Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet are more feature-rich and feel more modern inside, but both use turbo petrol engines with DCT gearboxes in the automatic versions.
