With mostly city use, low running and Rs 10-12 lakh to spend, in that situation, the Hyundai Exter HX10 Petrol AMT is the one you should pick. Go for the AMT automatic gearbox, because it will make stop-and-go traffic much easier on your left leg. It's also the top variant, so it will have all the features you need.
The Exter suits city life well. It is small on the outside, so parking and tight lanes are easy, but the seat is set a bit higher so you see the road clearly and glide over speed breakers without worry. The 1.2 petrol feels smooth at low speeds and is calm in traffic, which is what you will do most of the time with 5-6k km a year. Hyundai’s cabin is user-friendly, gets the basics you will use every day, and their after-sales reach in cities is strong, so upkeep is simple.
Two trade-offs to note. The AMT can feel a bit slow to change gears if you press hard, so quick gaps need a light right foot, but it's worthwhile for the convenience trade-off. And if you plan a highway trip with a full load of passengers, the engine will feel just about enough during fast overtakes.
If you prefer a slightly larger feel and Maruti’s network, look at the Maruti Fronx 1.2 Petrol Delta+ AMT. It keeps the easy-driving nature, sits a bit higher than a regular small car, and the petrol is well suited to short city runs. Overall, for mainly city use and this budget, the Exter HX10 AMT lines up best.

This message is not showing about cars This is to show about after sales service and the company's response to customer My car had an accident on 15th January 2026 in Thane Majiwada Flyover while I was returning from Mumbai with my whole family. Due to the accident, We had severe injuries to all passengers because the Airbag was not deployed even after getting a huge amount of impact on the front. Hyudai simply denied that it was not deployed because of very low impact at the front of the car even after they manually inspected the car. It clearly can be seen in the video that the car has been fully damaged, but @hyundaiindia and their authorised showroom don't want to accept that they delivered a manufacturing defect Car. We never got a proper reply after several approaches to the showroom in @kamal_hyundai Taloja, Panvel - Mumbai They want Us to use this Manufacturing defect car after repairs. Now we're initiated a Legal process with Authorities in India. If brands like Hyundai can't deliver quality and safety, why should We invest a premium amount to buy the car just because of its Brand value? #hyudaicars #hyudaiexter #hyudaiindia #indianews #hyudaicreta

In terms of an elevated seating position and ease of getting in and out, the Tata Punch is the best fit within your budget. Its doors open wide, and the seats are comfortable and set high, so you step into it rather than down into it. The drawbacks are that the engine isn’t the most refined, and Tata’s service experience can be hit or miss in some areas.Alternatively, the Hyundai Exter automatic is a good choice too. The high, chair-like seats and wide-opening doors make getting in and out easy. The seating position isn’t quite as high as the Punch’s, so it is worth trying both to see which works best for you. On the plus side, the engine is very refined, the AMT is one of the smoother-shifting units in the segment, and Hyundai has a strong reputation for after-sales service.If you want something that is even easier to live with on a tight budget, look at the Maruti Wagon R AMT. The tall-boy design is excellent for seniors. Just know that while it is a great city car, it is not particularly well-suited to highway driving.

In Hyderabad traffic, it is easy to drive, the steering is light, the automatic keeps stop-and-go stress low, and you get hill-hold and a clear rear camera that makes ramps and tight parking simple. It is a turbo-petrol and returns good mileage for daily use – expect roughly 10-11kpl in the city and 16kpl on the highway. The 308-litre boot takes airport bags and weekly shopping without fuss, and the cabin is well built and comfortable. Ground clearance is higher than that of a hatchback, so speed breakers and broken patches are less of a worry.Your budget should cover the Zeta automatic in Hyderabad, but if it feels like a stretch, the Fronx is also available with a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre engine and an AMT. This combo won’t have the highway performance of the turbo-petrol and the AMT shifts with a slight pause between gears, so it won’t be as seamless as the turbo's torque-converter automatic. Pick the Mahindra XUV 7XO. At around Rs. 20 lakh, it gives you the best mix of space, strong performance and safety, and it is far easier to live with every day than the Thar Roxx while being a better value than a low or mid Hector variant. You also get both petrol and diesel choices, so you can match it to your running.Fuel choice is simple. Go petrol if most of your use is in the city or your running is under about 1,200 km a month. It is quieter, has fewer policy worries, and resale stays safe even if some cities tighten diesel rules. Pick diesel only if you drive long highway distances often, want a longer tank range, or haul a full family with luggage regularly.The only real downside with the XUV 7XO is that the fanciest features push you beyond Rs. 20 lakh, and there may be a wait period. If you mainly want a rugged toy, the Thar Roxx is great, but for family life, the XUV 7XO fits better.

I am planning to purchase a new automatic car and am confused between the Honda Amaze ZX CVT and the Skoda Kylaq Signature Plus AT. My usage will be around 90% city driving, primarily for office commuting between Dwarka, Delhi and my office near IFFCO Chowk, Gurugram (approximately 25 km one way). However, I will not be driving daily, as I often use the Metro as well. The car will also be driven by my 69-year-old father, so ease of driving, comfort, visibility, ingress/egress, and reliability are important considerations. Our previous car was an Alto K10 Manual, so this will be our first automatic car and a significant upgrade. Considering my usage pattern, family profile and the fact that we intend to keep the car for a long period for around 10 years, which of these two would you recommend?

The CVT is smoother than the Kylaq's torque converter automatic in stop-and-go traffic, visibility is excellent, the car is easy to place on the road, ingress and egress are straightforward, and Honda's long-term reliability record is hard to fault. Coming from an Alto K10, it will already feel like a substantial upgrade in comfort, refinement and features.The Kylaq Signature Plus AT is the more desirable car from an enthusiast's perspective. The 1.0 TSI turbo petrol has more punch, the higher seating position is nice, and the overall package feels more substantial. However, it is also a larger vehicle to manoeuvre, and while the automatic is good, it is not quite as seamless in everyday traffic as Honda's CVT.Another point in Amaze's favour is that the ZX variant gets Honda Sensing ADAS, which adds useful safety features without making the car complicated to operate. Since your father will also be driving it, that extra layer of safety is a nice bonus.

Buy the Kia Seltos. It is simply easier to live with for most buyers, thanks to a much wider service network and many more variant and powertrain choices, including good automatics across a wider price range. For daily city runs with the odd highway trip, the Seltos will feel like the more complete package and it has a more spacious and premium cabin. The Skoda Kylaq will suit you only if you really enjoy driving. It feels tighter and more confidence inspiring on the move, and the steering has more feel. If you plan long, frequent road trips and care more about how it drives than gadgets, that’s where the Kylaq shines. The flip side is fewer dealers and fewer variant choices.
