Hi, I want to buy a car with a budget of Rs 10 lakh. Please suggest a car. I am confused between the Sierra and the Tata Curvv.

The Tata Sierra price starts from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), so sadly it is not a realistic option within your budget. 

You will also have to stretch your budget by a couple of lakhs to get an entry-level Tata Curvv. If you're on a tight budget, consider the Tata Nexon instead.

Hi, I am from Kolkata and am planning to buy a new car for the first time. My budget is between 11 and 12 lakh. Now, my driving will be more or less within 600-700 km/month which will involve 60% city and 40% highway driving. I want a compact SUV and my choices are Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 ZXi, Brezza ZXi 1.0L Turbo, Skoda Kylaq Classic+/Signature and Tata Nexon Pure Plus PS. You can suggest me other cars as well. I am confused between NA and Turbo. Mileage is also an important factor but not the first priority.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi 1.0L turbo petrol. While the Brezza NA will be more efficient, with your running of 600-700 km a month and a 60:40 city-highway split, you likely aren't going to feel the pinch. You will, however, appreciate the turbo's extra performance on the highway. Drivability in traffic is also good, with good low end performance and a light clutch. The reason to get the NA would be is you are opting for the automatic, which isn't available on the turbo. The Brezza also has Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs, which is important for a first-time buyer. The Kylaq is the better driver’s car, but the Brezza is the more sensible long-term ownership choice. The Nexon is a good option too, but the Brezza’s ownership experience is easier.

Hi Autocar team, I am planning to buy Mercedes and have shortlisted Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d & Mercedes-Benz GLE 450. I am in Bangalore and I commute daily to office for 20km a day along with weekend drives, long distance drive of around 15000 km per year. Now, between these two, which is better to choose? Will diesel car be good to have? Over the period of 5 to 7 years, will the government norms change for diesel vehicle? Also, should I buy the car now or consider waiting for the facelift of these 2 models next year or worth to wait till next? Please share a comprehensive report.

Go for the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450. With your 15,000km a year, a mix of city and highway, and a 5-7 year ownership plan, the GLE 450 is the better fit. The GLC 220d is a very good car, but the GLE 450 is a clear step up in space, comfort and overall luxury. It is a genuinely large SUV with a far more spacious rear seat and a more premium cabin experience, and a comfy ride quality, which makes a big difference on long drives and family trips. The 450 petrol engine is also smooth, powerful and well suited to your usage pattern.On the diesel question, at 15,000km a year a diesel can make sense, but the GLE 450 petrol is refined, efficient enough and future-proof. There is no immediate government plan to ban diesel cars, but policy direction can change over time, especially in cities like Bangalore. The GLE 450 petrol is the safer long-term ownership bet.On the facelift, both the GLC and GLE are expected to get updates in 2027 with the GLE likely to be revamped by the mid 2027. If you are not in a hurry, it is worth waiting. If you need the car now, do not overthink it – the GLE 450 will serve you well for years.

I have a Tata Nexon Creative AMT that is only a year old, but I have already had to replace the spark plugs four times and the ignition coil once. I am still facing engine misfires and vibrations inside the car. I am honestly fed up with Tata's service, as they have been unable to resolve the issue. I am therefore planning to sell the Nexon and buy a Kia Seltos with a manual transmission this time. My priority was safety earlier, and it remains my top priority. However, I now also want peace of mind and a hassle-free ownership experience. Would selling the Nexon and switching to the Seltos be a good decision?

I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. Please suggest which one would be the best choice for my requirements.

The Brezza’s 6-speed torque converter automatic is the best fit for this usage. It is smooth, reliable and well suited to stop-start conditions, and the naturally aspirated petrol engine is efficient and easy to live with. Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs add to the ownership peace of mind.The Sonet and Venue DCTs are good cars, but the DCT gearbox is not ideal for heavy traffic. It can feel jerky at low speeds.Alternatively, if you can arrange for home charging, the Tata Punch EV is an excellent option.

Considering your budget and usage pattern, the Skoda Kushaq Signature 1.0 MT is the best fit. It is one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs in this price range, with a strong turbo petrol engine and a well-sorted chassis that gives you confidence on winding hill roads and highways. The Skoda Kushaq also offers good ride comfort, a solid build and a premium feel inside the cabin. You'll just have to be content with missing some features compared to the top-spec Kushaq Monte Carlo.If you want a more feature-rich and value-focused option, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 Luxury petrol is also worth considering. It offers a roomy cabin, more features than the Kushaq Signature and a strong 1.2 turbo petrol engine as well. However, the Kushaq is a larger car and feels more enjoyable to drive.
