Hello Experts, I have come across the following option: a 2023 Skoda Slavia Ambition 1.5 TSI Manual (second owner) with only 10,500 km on the odometer. The car is mechanically bone stock and has been maintained exclusively at authorised Skoda service centres, with complete service records. It was last serviced in May 2024. It is covered by zero-depreciation insurance, an active AMC service package valid until 2027, and an extended warranty valid until 2029. The car also has a few tasteful aesthetic upgrades, including 17-inch Skoda Kushaq rims with Continental 205/50 R17 tyres, OEM top-spec Style projector headlights, a trunk lip spoiler, and black-wrapped front grille and trunk accents. The owner is selling it due to lack of usage. I have test-driven the car twice, and it seems to be in great condition. The owner has already shared all the previous documents and service records with me and is open to having the car inspected at Skoda or anywhere else. The first owner's details have also been shared openly. Everything looks clean so far. The asking price is Rs. 12 lakh. As a driving enthusiast, I am massively tempted to buy it, but I would like an expert opinion. I also have another option: a Honda Elevate VX Manual, driven for 16,000 km, with a single owner, priced at Rs. 11.25 lakh. Please help me decide. Go for the Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI manual. As a driving enthusiast, this is exactly the kind of car you should be looking for. The 1.5 TSI is a genuinely strong engine with excellent performance, and the manual gearbox makes it a far more engaging car to drive than the Elevate. The fact that it is a rare find in the used market only adds to its appeal.The car itself sounds very clean. Full service history at authorised Skoda workshops, an active AMC, extended warranty till 2029 and zero depreciation insurance all point to a well-maintained example. The only thing to check is the price. Rs 12 lakh is on the higher side for a second-owner 2023 Ambition (entry-level), despite the upgrades and warranty. Remember, the 1.5 TSI MT was discontinued because of low demand, and finding a buyer in the used car market isn't going to be easy unless, of course, a driving enthusiast like you shows interest. Realistically, if you can get the price down below Rs 11 lakh, it could be worth opting for. Else, the Elevate seems like the more sensible option.

Do keep in mind that diesel engines are not as refined as hybrids, and also in city driving conditions, efficiency will be lower. However, diesel SUVs will be very efficient on the highway.

Hi team, I have a Hyundai EON (Era Plus) model which I bought in March 2012. As I am nearing the 15-year mark, I wanted to know whether I should continue with it for another 5 years by paying the environmental tax or should I consider upgrading to a new car. My total running is not very high, around 25k kms and it generally gets driven only during the weekends, as my office commute is through an office cab. In the last 2-3 years, I have developed a habit of occasional long drives else its mostly city driving. The vehicle has a BS III engine and 819 cc. I changed all four wheels of my car in 2024. Overall, the condition of the car is good, and I haven't faced any major issues so far; more importantly, I am happy with the car. But I need an opinion on: 1) Whether I can continue using it for another 5 years by paying environment tax? 2) Given the scenario of making E20 mandatory, my car won't support E20 fuel as of now; are there any chances/ scope there will be normal petrol will still be available to support older model cars? 3) Any other factors that I need to consider/ think of before making a decision? Paying the environment tax is a one-time cost, and as long as the car is well maintained, there is no reason to replace it purely because of age. If the car is rust-free, mechanically healthy, and you are happy with it, there is no financial logic in replacing it.
