I am confused between the Skoda Kylaq Signature AT and Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT. Which one should I buy? We are a family of five, and my current usage is mostly in the city. I will rarely drive on highways for now.

Go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT. For a family of five with predominantly city usage, the 3XO is the better fit. It has a wider cabin than the Kylaq, making it a more comfortable 5-seater, and the rear seat is genuinely accommodating for three passengers. The automatic gearbox is smooth and well-suited to city driving, and Mahindra's service reach is strong.

The Skoda Kylaq is a good driver's car, but its rear seat is not as wide, and it is better suited to four adults. Since your usage is mostly city and family comfort is the priority, the 3XO is the more practical and comfortable choice.

Go for Tata Sierra Diesel with turbo charger. Pure Plus and above Models are having Turbo Charger. Don't opt Petrol Manual as the same cannot be used in hilly terrain due to lack of power.

I am looking for a fun-to-drive manual car around the Rs 15 lakh budget. Given your requirements, the Kylaq Sportline is a good fit. The 1.0 TSI is a genuinely punchy engine that loves to be revved; the manual gearbox is slick, and the car has a great ride and handling balance. The Skoda Kylaq is also compact enough to be genuinely fun on tighter roads, and the ride is well sorted for broken patches, which addresses your concern about sedans.The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a good car and has a more powerful engine, but it is not as driver-focused as the Kylaq. The Renault Duster 1.3 Turbo is a strong alternative if you want more outright performance, but it is a bigger car and does not feel as nimble as the Kylaq. The Kylaq is the right size, has the right engine and gearbox combination, and is genuinely fun to drive. At Rs 13 lakh, the Kylaq Sportline is also great value.

With 800 km a month and mostly city driving, a petrol automatic is the right choice. From your shortlist, it is clear that you are looking for driving pleasure and both cars that you have shortlisted will deliver on that front. We would lean towards the Kylaq as its torque convertor gearbox is better suited to start-stop traffic being smoother and generally more robust than the DCT gearbox in the NLine. However the 1.0 litre TSI engine in the Kylaq has turbo lag which makes control a bit tricky; you will often be off boost and need to press the throttle further than normal and then, you'll have a sudden surge of power. The Hyundai Venue, on the other hand will have a few noticeably notchy shifts at low speeds but its has an easier throttle modulation. Thus, make sure that you drive both and see how comfortable you feel with each of their drive characters.

I am confused between Creta SX IVT and Elevate CVT for 8000 km of annual running with long trips of 1200 km 3-4 times in a year for a family of 4. Apart from this, day to day usage is less than 100km per month. I am looking for a car for long term ownership and travel comfort.

The Creta SX IVT is the better fit for your requirement. It offers a quieter, more refined cabin, comfortable rear seats and a smoother CVT, which are particularly valuable when spending several hours on the highway with four people and luggage. Autocar's long term experience with the Creta petrol IVT also found it refined, comfortable and particularly well suited to road trips.The Honda Elevate CVT has advantages of its own. Its 220mm ground clearance, long travel suspension and large 458-litre boot make it particularly good on poor roads, while its naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine and CVT make for a relatively simple powertrain.
