Hi, I am about to book Tata Harrier petrol automatic as my running is less but I am confused between Adventure X and Adventure X+ and there is only 35 to 45,000 rupees difference between these two variants in the showroom from where I am about to book the car.

With only Rs 35,000-45,000 separating the Adventure X and Adventure X+ at the dealer, the X+ is the one to choose. The two Tata Harrier variants have the same 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and six-speed torque converter automatic, so there is no difference in performance or basic driving experience.

The extra money on the X+ gets you Level 2 ADAS, electronic parking brake with Auto Hold and rear disc brakes. The Adventure X already gets the important equipment such as the panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloys, 360-degree camera, digital instrument cluster and six airbags.

For just Rs 35,000-45,000 more, the X+ additions are worthwhile, particularly Auto Hold for everyday traffic and the additional driver assistance features for highway use.

I purchased a Kia Sonet 1.0 iMT in 2024 after owning Maruti Suzuki Dzire for around 11 years. I was so bored of driving it for more than a decade that I rushed to change. I wanted a compact SUV as an upgrade but settled for a sub-compact SUV due to budget constrain or may be due to lack guidance and understanding. Soon after buying it, I realized that this is not the car that I want to drive. I want a vehicle that looks and feels rugged but at the same time, is usable for daily commute with 80 - 90% city drive. I want to feel the same way I feel when I drive my Royal Enfield (strong and rugged). In less than 3 years, I am looking for a change again but this is time I don't want to make the same mistake. I have a few cars in mind but I am not sure which one should I go for. I have shortlisted Renault Duster Hybrid (upcoming), Tata Harrier AT (diesel), Thar Roxx AT (diesel), Toyota Hyryder Hybrid and Hyundai Creta AT (Diesel or Petrol). I drive around 1000 to 1200 km per month, mostly in the city but when I plan for long drives to mountains in Himachal, Uttarakhand or even Leh, I shouldn't have to worry about it. My budget is between 17 to 19 lakh (ex-Showroom). Please advise.

Go for the Renault Duster Hybrid when it launches. It is the best fit for what you are looking for. You want a car that feels rugged and strong like your Royal Enfield, but is still usable for daily city driving. The Duster has always been known for its tough, no-nonsense character and excellent ride quality, and the new generation continues that tradition. The hybrid powertrain will make it much more suitable for your 80-90% city driving, while still being capable enough for long drives to the mountains without you having to worry about fuel efficiency or reliability.The Tata Harrier diesel is a good car, but it is a much larger vehicle and not as easy to live with in the city. The Thar Roxx/OG is a great lifestyle vehicle, but it is not practical as a daily driver. The Toyota Hyryder Hybrid is a sensible choice, but it does not have the same rugged character you are looking for. The Hyundai Creta diesel is a good all-rounder, but it does not feel as tough or as special as the Duster. With your running, you could consider the 1.3 turbo petrol Duster with the DCT as well. It is not the most efficient engine and gearbox combination, but given your limited running, the fuel economy penalty should not be significant.

I am currently driving Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire VDi (2013) diesel manual. I want to decide between Tata Harrier Adventure X Plus DK and Tata Sierra accomplished (both diesel). On Harrier, I am getting discount of approximately 1.6 lakh and on Sierra, I am getting approximately 70,000 discount. Which one should I prefer? My daily driving is approximately 70km with 80% driving on state highway and 20% in city. There is no budget constraint.

For your 70km daily running with 80 percent on state highways, the Harrier is the better fit. The 2.0-litre diesel produces 170hp and 350Nm, making it considerably more effortless than the Sierra’s 1.5-litre diesel, particularly for overtaking and sustained highway cruising. The Harrier also has excellent high-speed stability and ride quality, which should suit your usage well.The Sierra Accomplished Diesel is the newer and more compact option. It has a slightly better ride over broken roads and its smaller dimensions will make it easier to manage in the city. Its diesel is also more economical in real-world testing, but the difference is small on the highway: 14.56kpl for the Sierra versus 14.36kpl for the Harrier.In your case, the Rs 1.6 lakh discount on the Harrier makes the decision even easier. You get the larger, more powerful engine, better highway performance and a substantial discount, while the Sierra is still a new product without a long-term ownership track record.

Hi, I am looking for an automatic car for my dad for 70% travelling on open highways/country roads and 30% in slow moving (not heavy) traffic. with quarterly over 350km of travel. Fuel efficiency is not a concern to me and features as well as cabin toys are not deal brakers. My pure focus is on engine, transmission and reliability. I have shortlisted i20 CVT as the belt drive is smooth, but I am not sure about longer 110kph cruising and overtakes. I have also shortlisted, 3XO TC as the MPFi is convincing but I am not convinced about the service of Mahindra. The car is also a bit bulky for my dad. I have also shortlisted Kylaq automatic as this car is compact but has enough power but I am a bit worried about the 2.0 Skoda/Volkswagen reliability. The nearest ASC is 70kms away, which is the major concern as accessibility worry when i face some issues. Also, I am not sure how the engine will feel while driving in the city because of direct Injection in the long run. Other cars are rejected because of AMT/DCT/Budget/strict petrol requirement.

I am confused between the Elevate and the Creta. I understand that the Creta is the more established one, but with Honda, the value it brings is amazing, while the price of the Creta is a bit higher than the value it offers. I am mostly a city driver, with around 95% of my driving in the city and occasional highway trips, covering around 10,000km per year. Can you help me get some perspective?

The Hyundai Creta is the more premium product with a richer feature list. Since your usage is mainly in the city, you are likely to appreciate the Creta's smoothness and refinement, as well as the additional features it offers. Sure, this Hyundai car might cost a bit more, but it is a proven product that commands strong brand equity, which is likely to translate to higher resale value. The Honda Elevate gives you most of what you need at a significantly lower cost, and Honda’s service network is strong enough to make ownership hassle-free. Go for the Elevate if you value its stronger engine performance, else for a refined drive experience, pick the Creta.

I currently drive a Hyundai i10 CNG, with daily running of around 6 km in Gurgaon city traffic and a monthly highway drive of around 200 km. I am now planning to upgrade my car, with an on-road budget of Rs. 12 lakh for a petrol sub-4-metre SUV, up to Rs. 14 lakh for a petrol midsize SUV, and Rs. 15 lakh for an EV. I live in a rented apartment on the second floor, so I am apprehensive about getting an EV. I prefer an EV, but installing a charger could be complicated due to the sanctioned load. My running could increase to nearly 800 km per month in the future. My key priorities are: - Good suspension and ride comfort, as I have a back problem - Decent fuel efficiency in heavy city traffic - Low to medium maintenance costs - Auto hold and ventilated seats would be good to have I sometimes consider buying a manual, but I mostly prefer an automatic. I am currently considering the Maruti Brezza, Baleno AMT, Fronx AMT/AT, Sonet iMT, Exter AMT, and even the upcoming Inster, VF3, and Bayon. I am open to other suggestions as well. Note: I had a bad driving experience with the Punch AMT, as it caused back fatigue.

Given your priorities of ride comfort, fuel efficiency and low maintenance, the Maruti Brezza automatic is the most sensible upgrade. It offers a comfortable ride, a proven naturally aspirated petrol engine and Maruti's strong service network, which keeps long-term ownership costs in check. The torque converter automatic is smooth in city traffic, and the Brezza's higher seating position will help with your back issues. The Sonet iMT is not the right choice here. While it is a good car, the iMT is not a true automatic and will not offer the same ease of use in Gurgaon traffic. The Baleno AMT and Exter AMT are also not ideal given your back issues and the fact that AMT gearboxes are not as smooth as torque converter automatics in stop-start conditions.On the EV front, your apprehension about charging is valid. Without a straightforward home charging solution, an EV will add unnecessary complexity to your ownership experience. The upcoming Bayon is interesting and if you can wait a few weeks you would have a better picture before making a decision. For now, the Brezza automatic strikes the best balance between comfort, efficiency and hassle-free ownership.

The CNG premium is around Rs. 1 lakh, and the nearby village pump may open around Diwali, but this is not guaranteed. 3. What real-world mileage can I expect with the AC on? 4. Please consider loan interest, fuel costs, maintenance, depreciation, and resale value. 5. Is the Brezza worth the extra money? 6. Give me one final choice and tell me what I should avoid.

The Brezza LXI Turbo is far superior to the Punch and Tiago as far as smoothness, performance, and cabin space are concerned. It is also backed by Maruti's widespread support network, and the ownership experience is likely to be fuss-free. The on-road cost of the Brezza LXI will fall within your Rs 9 lakh budget, and even though you might miss a few features, it still feels worth opting for. Alternatively, you could also consider the Maruti Dzire VXI MT for its large boot, comfy ride and strong fuel efficiency.
