I want to know which car I should buy – a brand-new Mercedes GLE 350 diesel or a 2014 Porche Macan diesel with full features, but one that’s been test-driven for 18,000km, for a base price of Rs 86 lakh? Please advise.

AAA It really depends on your priorities. If you are looking for an SUV that is spacious and practical, then the Mercedes GLE 350 diesel is a good choice. It is smooth, comfortable and a great highway cruiser. The Macan diesel, however, is a different animal altogether and if you are looking for pure driving pleasure, the Macan is unbeatable. It handles brilliantly and its punchy 3.0-litre V6 diesel is silky smooth and very quick. However, in our view, the Macan is overpriced and the space in the cabin is quite tight compared to the Merc’s.
