I'm planning to purchase a car, but I'm confused between the Kylaq AT, Venue DCT, and i20 N Line DCT. My primary usage will be mostly city driving.

Pick the Hyundai Venue DCT. For mostly city use, it is simply the easiest to live with: compact dimensions for easy parking, a high seating position for better view in traffic, and enough ground clearance to glide over bad patches and tall speed breakers without worrying. Its turbo engine with the automatic feels quick enough to exploit gaps in traffic, and the steering is light, so long commutes will be less tiring. Do note, though, the Venue DCT's can feel a touch hesitant at low speeds, and the city mileage is just okay, as is the case with the others, because it's a small capacity turbo engine. The Hyundai Venue price starts at Rs 8.00 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Hyundai i20 N Line DCT is more fun to drive, but its firmer suspension and lower stance make it less friendly on rough roads and speed bumps, and you're sitting lower, so you won't get as good a view out.

The Skoda Kylaq AT has the smoothest gearbox for bumper-to-bumper and feels more at home on the highway, but it isn't as premium or spacious on the inside as the Venue.

I'm confused between buying a petrol or diesel car. My priority is fuel efficiency. I'm a bit concerned about dpf issue as well. My running is 70 percent on city and 30 percent on highway. Can I buy altroz diesel? I need good power and mileage. My running would be 1200 to 1500 kms per month

This Mahindra car is also one of the safest cars in the segment, with a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and Mahindra’s service network and maintenance costs are reasonable. The diesel automatic is a torque converter unit, which is smooth and reliable, and the car is well equipped with useful features without being overly complex. If you are absolutely set on petrol, the Hyundai Venue in its top-spec HX10 guise, with the turbo petrol automatic option, is also worth considering. Hi, I am from Kolkata and am planning to buy a new car for the first time. My budget is between 11 and 12 lakh. Now, my driving will be more or less within 600-700 km/month which will involve 60% city and 40% highway driving. I want a compact SUV and my choices are Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 ZXi, Brezza ZXi 1.0L Turbo, Skoda Kylaq Classic+/Signature and Tata Nexon Pure Plus PS. You can suggest me other cars as well. I am confused between NA and Turbo. Mileage is also an important factor but not the first priority.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi 1.0L turbo petrol. While the Brezza NA will be more efficient, with your running of 600-700 km a month and a 60:40 city-highway split, you likely aren't going to feel the pinch. You will, however, appreciate the turbo's extra performance on the highway. Drivability in traffic is also good, with good low end performance and a light clutch. The reason to get the NA would be is you are opting for the automatic, which isn't available on the turbo. The Brezza also has Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs, which is important for a first-time buyer. The Kylaq is the better driver’s car, but the Brezza is the more sensible long-term ownership choice. The Nexon is a good option too, but the Brezza’s ownership experience is easier.

I want to upgrade from my Hyundai i10 to some other smaller car with status. It should be suitable for approximately 3000km annual running under a budget of Rs. 10 to 11 lakh. Please suggest.

It feels like a clear step up from the i10 without being unnecessarily complicated. The recent facelift has introduced the turbo petrol which improved highway performance. The drawback is that it isn't available with an automatic right now.If you want something with a bit more status and a more premium feel, the Skoda Kylaq is a good alternative. It has a more premium feel inside out, but the Brezza is the easier car to live with day to day. Overall, the Brezza hits the brief best: it is a no-nonsense, reliable upgrade with just enough status to feel special.

I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. It is one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs in this price range, with a strong turbo petrol engine and a well-sorted chassis that gives you confidence on winding hill roads and highways.
