I am confused about choosing between the Thar 4×2 petrol, Tata Curvv, and the Honda City. Please help me decide which one to choose.

That's a very varied set of cars in your shortlist, and it would be hard to pinpoint one without knowing your specific requirements. The Mahindra Thar is a good option if you want a rugged SUV to take on bad roads. If you really like the image, if not its not better than the others as a daily driver, as the ride over medium bumps and patchy city streets is very busy.  Also, the refinement, too, will not be as nice as the Honda City in particular. 

The Tata Curvv will be more refined than the Mahindra Thar and will feel more premium inside, too. Plus, it will have sufficient ground clearance for most bad roads in and about the city. So this is a good buy if very rough roads are not something you encounter. 

The Honda City would be best if you like to drive, as the handling of a sedan will feel better than the Thar and the Curvv. Also, we assume you live in an area with reasonably good roads.

Hey Autocar, We're looking into sedans. Shortlisted Verna and City. Spoke with a guy, and he gave advice not to choose the City due to its rusting issue. I did a test drive, and the city was my primary choice. But, thinking about this statement he made. Also, enquired with the dealer. But, they denied it, stating their new cars are galvanised properly. I don't know what to do. Please advise.

Modern cars from both Honda and Hyundai have significantly improved corrosion protection, and under normal ownership conditions, rust should not be a major concern.If the Honda City was your preferred choice after the test drive, there is little reason to change that decision based on a single comment. The City remains one of the most well-rounded sedans in the segment, offering excellent ride comfort, rear-seat space, visibility and a proven naturally aspirated petrol engine that is smooth, refined and reliable.The Hyundai Verna offers a more modern interior, a stronger feature list and a wider powertrain choice. While the turbo-petrol version grabs most of the attention, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol paired with the CVT is also a very smooth and relaxed combination. It is easy to drive in traffic and suits buyers looking for comfort and refinement rather than outright performance.

I am presently driving an automatic Honda City ZX. I run 35km in the city and 500 km on highways in a month. I am looking for a 20-25 lacs EV car. Seeking advice on this.

Consider the Hyundai Creta Electric 51.4kWh. Your 35 km daily city run is a breeze - one home charge can cover most of your week - and it has enough real highway range to handle your 500 km a month with one quick DC stop on longer trips.Coming from a City ZX, you will like the smooth, quiet drive and strong low-speed pull in traffic. Cabin space is good, features are plenty, and the Hyundai service network si wide spread.If you want a second option in the same price band, the Mahindra XEV 9e is a good choice, though your budget will only get you the smaller 59kWh battery pack.Overall, the Creta Electric is the sensible option for your budget and a good upgrade over your City.

Go for the Honda City (petrol, manual) because it fits your 70% city use best and still feels calm on highways. The engine is smooth, the controls are light, and the rear seat and boot are a clear upgrade from your WR-V for family and luggage. With your low yearly running, petrol makes total sense, and the City’s easy manners in traffic will matter more than outright power or diesel savings.Budget-wise, the lower trims of the manual should fit within Rs. 15 lakh on-road but if you want an automatic you will need to stretch to about Rs 17 lakh. It is also an easy brand switch for you, with familiar Honda service and good long-term reliability.One thing to keep in mind coming from a WR-V: the City sits lower, so you will need a bit more care on tall speed breakers and broken roads.If you absolutely need an automatic under Rs. 15 lakh on-road, look at the Honda Amaze automatic. It is the smoothest budget automatic for city crawls and will keep costs in check, but it is smaller and feels simpler than your WR-V or the City.

Pick the Mahindra XUV 7XO. At around Rs. 20 lakh, it gives you the best mix of space, strong performance and safety, and it is far easier to live with every day than the Thar Roxx while being a better value than a low or mid Hector variant. You also get both petrol and diesel choices, so you can match it to your running.Fuel choice is simple. Go petrol if most of your use is in the city or your running is under about 1,200 km a month. It is quieter, has fewer policy worries, and resale stays safe even if some cities tighten diesel rules. Pick diesel only if you drive long highway distances often, want a longer tank range, or haul a full family with luggage regularly.The only real downside with the XUV 7XO is that the fanciest features push you beyond Rs. 20 lakh, and there may be a wait period. If you mainly want a rugged toy, the Thar Roxx is great, but for family life, the XUV 7XO fits better.

I am planning to purchase a new automatic car and am confused between the Honda Amaze ZX CVT and the Skoda Kylaq Signature Plus AT. My usage will be around 90% city driving, primarily for office commuting between Dwarka, Delhi and my office near IFFCO Chowk, Gurugram (approximately 25 km one way). However, I will not be driving daily, as I often use the Metro as well. The car will also be driven by my 69-year-old father, so ease of driving, comfort, visibility, ingress/egress, and reliability are important considerations. Our previous car was an Alto K10 Manual, so this will be our first automatic car and a significant upgrade. Considering my usage pattern, family profile and the fact that we intend to keep the car for a long period for around 10 years, which of these two would you recommend?

Based on your requirement, we would recommend the Honda Amaze ZX CVT over the Skoda Kylaq Signature+ AT. The reason is that your priorities are not outright performance or driving excitement. You are looking for a car that will spend 90% of its life in city traffic, will also be driven by your 69-year-old father, and is expected to stay with the family for around 10 years. In that context, Amaze's strengths line up perfectly with your requirements. The CVT is smoother than the Kylaq's torque converter automatic in stop-and-go traffic, visibility is excellent, the car is easy to place on the road, ingress and egress are straightforward, and Honda's long-term reliability record is hard to fault. Coming from an Alto K10, it will already feel like a substantial upgrade in comfort, refinement and features.The Kylaq Signature Plus AT is the more desirable car from an enthusiast's perspective. The 1.0 TSI turbo petrol has more punch, the higher seating position is nice, and the overall package feels more substantial. However, it is also a larger vehicle to manoeuvre, and while the automatic is good, it is not quite as seamless in everyday traffic as Honda's CVT.Another point in Amaze's favour is that the ZX variant gets Honda Sensing ADAS, which adds useful safety features without making the car complicated to operate. Since your father will also be driving it, that extra layer of safety is a nice bonus.

I am confused between buying Skoda Kylaq and Kia Seltos. Please suggest.

Buy the Kia Seltos. It is simply easier to live with for most buyers, thanks to a much wider service network and many more variant and powertrain choices, including good automatics across a wider price range. For daily city runs with the odd highway trip, the Seltos will feel like the more complete package and it has a more spacious and premium cabin. The Skoda Kylaq will suit you only if you really enjoy driving. It feels tighter and more confidence inspiring on the move, and the steering has more feel. If you plan long, frequent road trips and care more about how it drives than gadgets, that’s where the Kylaq shines. The flip side is fewer dealers and fewer variant choices.
