I want to get a car with a budget of 20 lakhs. Don't want it tobbe as big as my current Honda CR-V 2013. Should be comfortable for 5 people and give decent mileage for a city like Mumbai. What would be a good option for me amongst options like Tata Sierra, Mahindra Xuv700, Skoda Kylaq/Kushaq, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos 2026 etc. Quite confused as to what will be a good balance of drivability and tech features and safety.

The best 5-seaters within a compact footprint are the Tata Sierra and the all-new Kia Seltos, mainly because of their spacious back seats which are good for three passengers.

The Sierra is a good mix of a city and highway car. But in your case, since you are mainly going to be commuting in Mumbai, the Seltos with the 1.5 petrol and CVT gearbox will be the best.

The Seltos is superbly equipped and a bit bigger than before, which makes it a very comfortable car.

I'm planning to buy an automatic SUV with a budget of around 18-20 lakh. My monthly running is around 500km, with a mix of city and highway driving. My priorities are fuel efficiency, comfort and safety. Which SUV would you recommend, and why?

With a budget of Rs 18-20 lakh, a monthly running of around 500 km and a mix of city and highway driving, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient option. The strong hybrid system delivers excellent fuel efficiency in both city and highway conditions, while the automatic gearbox is smooth and easy to live with. The Victoris also offers a comfortable ride, good rear-seat space and a strong safety package, though at your budget, you are looking at an entry-level trim. For your running, the Kia Seltos IVT is a better alternative. It isn't as efficient as the Victoris Hybrid but offers a more premium and feature-rich cabin. The IVT gearbox is seamless in operation, and the 1.5-litre NA engine is very refined, making it a very relaxed car to drive in the city. The Tata Sierra is also worth considering if comfort and space are your top priorities. It offers a very comfortable ride and a spacious cabin.Overall, if fuel efficiency is your absolute top priority, then the Victoris Hybrid is a solid choice. But otherwise, the Kia car is a more rounded package with a good balance of fuel efficiency, comfort, features, safety and long-term ownership experience.

I have a 2017 Hyundai i20 Asta diesel. My average daily running is 30 to 50 km. My vehicle is in good condition, although it requires regular maintenance and some repairs. I occasionally drive on highways and hilly roads (Jammu to Srinagar, Kashmir). Should I replace my vehicle or continue using it? If I should replace it, please suggest a suitable option. My budget is around Rs. 25 lakh.

With a 2017 i20 diesel Asta that is still running fine, the decision to upgrade should be driven by ownership costs and reliability rather than age. At 30-50 km a day with occasional highway and hilly road use, your diesel is still well suited to your usage, but if maintenance and repairs are starting to add up, it may be time to consider a change. With a budget of Rs. 25 lakh, the Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI is a strong recommendation. It offers a punchy turbo petrol engine that is well suited to hilly terrain, a solid build and a genuinely enjoyable driving experience. The Skoda car is also a good size upgrade from the i20, offering more space and ground clearance without being unwieldy. If you are looking for something more comfort-oriented, the Tata Sierra is worth considering. It offers a spacious cabin, a comfortable ride and a premium feel, making it a great long-distance tourer. The turbo petrol engine is strong, but it does not have the same long-term ownership track record as the Skoda. If you are happy with your i20 and maintenance costs are still manageable, there is no urgent need to upgrade. But if repairs are becoming frequent, the Kushaq 1.5 TSI is the best fit for your usage and budget.
