I want to get a car with a budget of 20 lakhs. Don't want it tobbe as big as my current Honda CR-V 2013. Should be comfortable for 5 people and give decent mileage for a city like Mumbai. What would be a good option for me amongst options like Tata Sierra, Mahindra Xuv700, Skoda Kylaq/Kushaq, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos 2026 etc. Quite confused as to what will be a good balance of drivability and tech features and safety.

We would recommend you look at the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. The Celerio will deliver well on the mileage and maintenance front, and it is also very easy to drive with a compact footprint, light controls and a good view outside. The car also secured a 3-star rating in the GNCAP crash tests, which is just about ok. If you'd like something better on this front, consider the Tata Tiago, which fares better with a 4-star rating. It offers a slightly better ride quality and stability at speed, but bear in mind the mileage will not be as good as the Maruti Celerio. Also, Tata dealers are not known to be very good with service.

The Maruti Celerio would be a good option for you. It isn't a tall car, so getting in and out is easy, but despite that, the view outside is good. The top-spec car has height adjustment for the driver's seat, and we recommend that you sit inside this variant to see how it suits you. It would be slightly above your Rs 6 lakh budget, but with some year-end dealer offers, you could get it below that mark.

The Tata Safari can be fully electrified, but Tata Motors had earlier put its launch plans on hold. However, following the launch of the Mahindra XEV 9S, Tata Motors has revived plans for the Safari EV to take on the XEV 9S to stop Mahindra from running away with the Rs 20 lakh three-row SUV space. The Safari EV is now likely to be launched by mid-2025.
