I am on a tight budget of Rs. 10-15 lakh and am looking for a 7-seater vehicle. It will mostly be used for city driving in Mumbai, with occasional highway trips. Please suggest whether the Nissan Gravite AMT is a good buy, or would you recommend something else?

For a tight budget of Rs. 10-15 lakh and a requirement for a 7-seater primarily for Mumbai city use with occasional highway runs, the Nissan Gravite AMT is actually a sensible choice. This Nissan car is one of the most affordable 7-seaters in the market and offers a genuinely usable third row, which is not always the case in this price bracket. The AMT gearbox is not the smoothest in stop-start traffic, but it is manageable and keeps the car within budget.

That said, if you can stretch your budget slightly, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the better long-term ownership proposition. It is more refined, more comfortable and has a proven track record for reliability and low running costs. The Ertiga's third row is also more comfortable for longer journeys, and Maruti's service network is a big advantage.

If budget is absolutely non-negotiable, the Gravite is a perfectly reasonable choice. If you can stretch a little, the Ertiga is the car you will be happier with over the next 5-10 years.

I am planning to buy a hatchback. We currently own a Swift ZDi AMT and an Ertiga ZXi AT. The Swift has done around 1,30,000 km, while the Ertiga has only 12,000 km on the odometer. I have a Tata Nexon Creative AMT that is only a year old, but I have already had to replace the spark plugs four times and the ignition coil once. I am still facing engine misfires and vibrations inside the car. I am honestly fed up with Tata's service, as they have been unable to resolve the issue. I currently drive a Grand i10 Manual petrol and am now planning to buy a new compact SUV that is comfortable, fuel efficient and has low maintenance. My usage is 35km of daily office commute in Delhi-NCR traffic. Please advice which option is best fit amongst Hyundai Venue HX 6T, SONET HTK+O and XUV 3XO.
